Mauer Der Toten Easter Egg Guide: Black Ops Cold War Zombies

Here is what you need to do to complete the main quest Easter Egg for Mauer Der Toten, the latest round-based Zombies map in Black Ops Cold War. It has been highly anticipated and the Easter Egg doesn't disappoint. Some stages can be difficult but this guide will help you every step of the way.

Mauer Der Toten Easter Egg Guide: Black Ops Cold War Zombies

The Easter Egg for Mauer Der Toten is now live, here’s how to complete the main quest for the map. It can be done solo, but as always it is easier with friends. Overall this one is harder than the previous round-based maps Die Maschine and Firebase Z, similar to the first Outbreak quest but harder than the second one. Read on and follow the quest step-by-step with tips and tricks along the way.

Set-Up

It is a good idea that you spend some time learning this new map. The layout can be somewhat maze-like especially for the first few hours. You will also need to know the locations of the perks, armour stations etc. Plus spend the time to learn the attacks of the new enemies, the Disciple and the Tormentors. Also make sure you have your perks, weapons and field upgrades levelled up to tier five, or as high as possible.

Turn On the Power and Unlock the Pack-a-Punch

Before starting anything, you will need to turn the power on and gain access to the Pack-a-Punch machine. The game will guide you through this quite clearly with on-screen objective indicators. However, a guide can be found here if you need additional help.

Access Klaus

The charismatic robot Klaus will be key for several steps of the Mauer Der Toten Easter Egg. Activating him is less obvious than Pack-a-Punch but still relatively simple. It involves finding his battery and hands hidden across the map. More details can be found in the video below.

Get the CRBR-S Wonder Weapon

In the process of unlocking Klaus, you’ll gain access to Room 305 in the hotel. Here there is a safe which contains a free wonder weapon, the CBRS-S (or Cerberus). To find the code combination you need to acquire a blacklight and search for hidden numbers on walls around the map. Again, to keep this article focused on the main quest itself, use this guide for help.

Alternatively, you can try to get lucky by getting the gun from the Mystery Box or from Legendary Trials rewards.

Craft the Headgear

Once you’ve got the CRBR-S, you can get the three parts needed for the headgear. Simply shoot the Wonder Weapon at the following three locations and the parts will drop to the floor.

  • The tall radio tower in the spawn area.
  • One of the several music radios in the electric shop near Juggernog.
  • The fuse box on the Ghost Station wall with a green light on it.

Once you’ve got all three parts craft the headgear on Klaus while he is sat down in the Safe Room where you originally found him.

1. Open the Lab Through the Wall in Sewer Access

Now for the first proper step of the Mauer Der Toten Easter Egg. In the Sewer Access area, you’ll find a brick wall. Behind it is the Endstation Lab, you can tell because the minimap will show that there’s another room. Activate Klaus and use the device in your tactical grenades slot to call him over to the wall, he will punch it revealing a metal door. Kill some zombies with the CRBR-S until one drops the Blazer variant (laser beam). Fire the Blazer at the door to melt it.

The blank brick wall is fairly conspicuous.

2. Pick Up Cannisters From Machine and Get an Endstation Lure

Downstairs you’ll find two machines with orange shields around them. After all the dialogue is heard the shields will disappear. Pick up three canisters from the central machine. Next, shoot the one to the right with the CRBR-S to open it and pick up an Endstation Lure, replacing your tactical slot.

Take Them to Three Essence Harvesters

Now you must find three green boxes around the map called Essence Harvesters. There are a lot of possible locations but there are only three that actually appear. Make sure to keep an eye out for them as you move around the map. Here are some of the potential locations:

  • On the roof, near Speed Cola.
  • In the Sewer Access, opposite the armour station.
  • The Destroyed Penthouse, below Quick Revive.
  • The Alley in the East Berlin Streets.
  • To the right immediately as you enter West Berlin from the checkpoint.

At each Harvester, insert the canister by interacting with the box. Then throw down the Lure and three Tempests will spawn. Killing these will send a small purple orb into the green box. Once you’ve taken out enough Tempests the canister will rise, glowing purple, pick this up and take it all the way back to the machine in the Lab where it came from. On your way a load of Manglers, Tormentors and other Zombies will spawn in to stop you, so be careful not to get cornered. Repeat this for each canister.

Their size and the green lights makes them easy to spot when moving around the map.

3. Upgrade Klaus

For the next step you’ll need to use Klaus again but he must be upgraded to the first stage. First, search the piles of rubble at the checkpoint area with the turrets. In one, you’ll find a microwave dish. Take the dish to the empty armour station in the Garment Factory. Activate Klaus and allow him to get a load of kills by himself. After a while, the light on the armour station will turn from red to green. Now tell him to go into it by targeting just in front of it.

You must now defend him for about a minute. Zombies will try to stop this by attacking. Be careful here as he can’t take too many hits before failing. Make good use of the CRBR-S and keep an eye on the health bar. You’ll know if you were successful if his weapon changes to be Pack-a-Punched.

4. Stop the Train With Klaus to Get the Warhead and ID Card

For the next step, you’ll likely have to wait for the robot to re-charge. Once he’s ready, activate him from his initial location and run towards the train tracks. To the left, just before however you’ll find the switch control room, interact with the console then quickly tell Klaus to go onto the track opposite the side where you came from. If he’s in the correct spot he will begin walking slowing down the track on his own.

This step can be awkward, if it doesn't work move on to the next round and try again.

This step can be awkward, if it doesn’t work move on to the next round and try again.

A train will then come but will be stopped by Klaus. Board the train and pick up the Warhead (in a box at the side) and ID Card (on a corpse that’s sat down). Take the warhead to the same machine in the Lab as before.

5. Use the Computer in the Safe Room and Browse Files

You’re getting near the end of the Mauer Der Toten Easter Egg now. On the table in the middle of the Safe Room (where Klaus sits) is a computer. Use the ID Card and browse through the files by interacting a few times. This is where the headgear is needed so if you haven’t done that step yet do it now. Be careful not to press it too many times as you don’t want to activate the satellite yet.

6. Use Another Computer to Activate a Satellite and Obtain Uranium

This next step is very risky because after starting it you have a five-minute timer where the game ends and you fail completely if you don’t do it in time. So make sure you know exactly what you need to do before beginning. Having teammates will make this step in particular much easier but is still possible when solo.

The computer and workbench needed are close together and easy to find.

The computer and workbench needed are close together and easy to find.

First, activate the satellite from a computer, the one in the tent next to the trial machine in West Berlin is probably the easiest. A big laser with come down and spawn in a special Megaton. Kill it and each half will drop one piece of uranium each. The timer starts now. Beware that special Mimics will also spawn so you should kill them before the Megaton. Pick one piece up and take it to the workbench next to the computer and craft a device. Then take it to one end of the zip-line that goes from the ‘Korber’ building to the Destroyed Penthouse. Do the same thing for the other pieces of uranium but place it at the other end of the zip-line, then activate it. The two devices will collide and drop a stable piece of uranium and the timer will stop.

Now take the uranium to the warhead. Unfortunately, this will not be enough so you must repeat this process with the satellite and uranium one more time. The only difference is that the laser will come down in a different location. The timer can be scary but you should be able to complete this step with time to spare as long as you know what you’re doing and you don’t panic.

7. Boss Fight

Well done, you’re now in the final stages of the Mauer Der Toten Easter Egg. Once you have added enough uranium Valentina with appear from the large portal. She has a range of defences and attacks and regular enemies will continue to spawn. A major attack to watch out for is an instant kill blast. Break line of sight when she charges this, signified by a blue-ish wavey effect on your screen and blue lines flying towards her.

The finale is epic in scale and a challenge to win.

The finale is epic in scale and a challenge to win.

First, you must break her shield (the blue bubble that surrounds her) and then do a massive amount of damage to eventually kill her. It’s best to go into this fight with a weapon with good range such as a tactical rifle, assault rifle or LMG and the CRBR-S, Pack-a-Punched as high as you can. Mule Kick at tier two is very useful as well because this will mean that all enemies can drop ammo.

After a period of time, Valentina will move to another location. Use this time to visit an armour station, the Pack-a-Punch or a crafting table should you need to resupply. In later stages, her shield will turn orange and she’ll be immune to damage. She will surround herself with zombies in order to heal. Kill the zombies to stop this from happening.

Frenzied Guard is great if you run out of armour before she moves location. Also, consider taking a death machine to burn through her health rapidly. Basically, be as prepared as possible and use everything at your disposal to win the fight. It’s probably not quite as difficult as the Tempest Boss from the first Outbreak Easter Egg but will still require all of your skill.

8. Escort Klaus To the Finish

Once you knock Valentina’s health down to zero a cutscene will play. Afterwards, there is one last thing to do to complete the Mauer Der Toten Easter Egg. Klaus will slowly walk towards the portal and you must kill all the incoming enemies to protect him. Afterwards, a final cutscene will play and you’ve done it!
