How to Escape the Jester in Lethal CompanyLethal Company is a relatively new game that came out on October 2023, which pits the player(s) against all kinds of horrors that lurk around in one of the many moons that the players can choose to land, where they can try and loot all the goodies inside for several days to trade them in for cash. That is… if they make it out alive.

On many Moons that the player(s) can explore, several Entities will confront them, both inside and outside the building, sometimes even surrounding the Ship, the beacon of hope in the lonely space of terror. This is why learning about the Entities, their actions, and how to escape them is as crucial as the looting itself.

This guide will help the players spot and escape from the Jester in Lethal Company, including its characteristics, behaviors, and how to escape from this Entity. Let’s begin.

What is the Jester in Lethal Company?

The Jester is an unassuming jack-in-the-box type of monster, first appearing as a harmless Entity with a pair of legs. However, this creature in reality is a ticking time bomb, something that you certainly don’t want to mess around with. The in-game Bestiary entry has this to say about the Jester:

Get out of there before it goes APE!! You can’t hide from it, just evacuate.

THERE’S NO FREAKING SCIENTIFIC RECORD! Good luck, you know as much as us. We just call it the Jester.

In short, the Jester is one of the deadliest Entities in Lethal Company, as its unassuming figure at first might throw off the players’ sense of danger, which might lead them to underestimate the Jester, a costly mistake that can end their runs quicker than they plan for.

The Jester’s Behaviors

Now that we know the general understanding of the Jester within the game, let’s move on to its behaviors, and see its patterns of movements and attacks to help you have a better chance of escaping the Jester in Lethal Company.

In short, the Jester has two modes: Boxed Mode and Popped Mode. In Boxed Mode, the Jester will approach the players leisurely and somewhat mimic a fragment of their movements. During this mode, the Jester will lock its targeting to a random employee, granting it a persistent presence amongst the players, though this action remains harmless for the most part. However, if you notice the Jester stopping in its tracks and beginning to wind up a piece of music, then this is your cue to run. No questions asked. Just run.

In Popped Mode, the Jester finishes up its winding and allows a massive skull to pop out from its top. It will then track the nearest player to its position, catching up to them almost immediately and killing them in an instant.

Also important to note is that the Jester does not operate based on sound, sight, or movement like other Entities such as The Bracken, Coil-Head, or Thumpers, making it super deadly once it enters the Popped Mode, as the Jester will be able to immediately know every players’ current location within the building, rendering hiding, staying silent, and sneaking around useless.

The Jester is usually found on several Moons, March, Dine, Rend, and Titan, with the Rend Moon having the largest spawn chance percentage for the Jester to appear.

How to Escape the Jester in Lethal Company

If you happen to find the Jester in one of your playthroughs in Lethal Company, having a fair grasp of internal timings and a calm mind are keys to successfully escaping from it. Here are several tips to make sure you survive your encounters against the Jester:

  1. Keep Track of Everyone’s Movements. You might think that having the Jester follow your company is not a big issue until it goes into the winding phase, however, this will prove fatal if the targeted player goes astray from your group, as that player will certainly end up being the first target in the Jester’s mind when it enters the Popped Mode, allowing it to have greater chance to kill that said player.
  2. Listen to the Jester’s Music Box. As the Jester follows you around, it will eventually decide to stop and enter the winding phase, where it will play ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’ for around 20 to 40 seconds. This is your only window to escape the building. Do that immediately if you hear the music start playing its tune.
  3. Regroup with Everyone. If the Jester is entering its winding phase, immediately inform everyone inside the building that the Jester will begin its chasing phase soon through Walkie-Talkie or proximity voice chats, so that they can quickly escape through the Main Entrance or the Fire Exit.
  4. Escape. The Jester is one of the Entities within Lethal Company that is unkillable and unshakeable, so the only plan to have in this situation is to simply exit the building through any means before the Jester catches up to you. Once every living player inside the building is out, the Jester will return to its Boxed Mode and start wandering off the building again.
