First off, before Mesprit, Uxie and Azelf can be found in Sinnoh, you need to get to a certain point in the story. Thankfully you don’t have to complete the game by beating the Elite Four. Players simply need to progress past the Spear Pillar story point (Dialga or Palkia encounter). After this story point, you can head to the designated lakes to find the three legendary Pokemon.

MESPRIT – LAKE VERITY
To find Mesprit, head over to Verity Lakefront, located near Twinleaf Town. Once there, surf on the water and enter the cave. You’ll find the legendary Pokemon in the middle of the cave. Save before interacting with it. Once you interact with Mesprit, it will immediately flee. Professor Rowan will then show up and explain that you can track the Pokemon with a Poketch app. If you haven’t already, travel to Jubilife City and enter the Poketch building. Once inside, speak to the man wearing a purple shirt near the booth. He is the president of the company and will update your Poketch with new apps. If you don’t receive the Marking app right away, interact with the president until you do.
After acquiring the Marking Poketch App, you’ll be able to track the Pokemon’s location. Unfortunately, though, Mesprit won’t sit still. It will continue to move as you enter new areas. Essentially, if you go somewhere in the game and see a title appear on the top left of the screen, you’ve entered a new area. Such examples include entering a city or a route. The best course of action here is to travel by foot/bicycle. Personally, I mostly traveled around Floaroma Town because of the various areas there. Once Mespirit is in your area, simply enter grass and it should show up shortly.
HOW TO CATCH
Now, there are a couple of ways to catch Mesprit. By far, the easiest option would be to use a master ball. This is a guaranteed catch but you only have one master ball so you have to make sure you’re willing to give it up here. That being said, if you want to avoid the hassle of chasing it around, this method will save time and some annoyance.
To those that are a bit more patient, you can also trap the legendary Pokemon. Mesprit will flee again if you fail to capture it in one turn. The best way to prevent it from fleeing is to have a move that prevents it from doing so such as Mean Look. With Mean Look, as long as the Pokemon that used Mean Look is in battle, wild Pokemon won’t be able to escape. There are several Pokemon that know Mean Look such as Golbat, Haunter, and Murkrow. The best option here would be Murkrow as Mesprit’s psychic moves won’t affect Murkrow. After using Mean Look, proceed to weaken the Pokemon and then throw Pokeballs until caught.
For those that want to conserve their master ball and don’t have the patience to level up a Murkrow, you’re essentially going to have to keep chasing Mesprit. You can of course use a quick ball and hope to get lucky. If that doesn’t work for you though, you’re going to have to weaken the legendary Pokemon to make it easier to catch. If you damage Mesprit, the next time you encounter it, you’ll notice the damage remains. Make sure to save often, in case you accidentally faint it. Additionally, status effects such as paralyze and sleep will not prevent these Pokemon from fleeing. It should make it easier to catch though.
UXIE – LAKE ACUITY
Uxie can be found by traveling to Acquity Lakefront next to Snowpoint City. Again, surf on the water and enter the cave in the middle. Uxie can be found in the middle of the cavern. Unlike Mesprit however, simply interacting with Uxie won’t cause it to flee. Before it flees, you’ll be able to battle with it. Afterward, it flees.
HOW TO CATCH
Most of the methods listed previously still hold true for Uxie. That being said, there is an additional method here because of how this Pokemon is found. Essentially, create a save right before interacting with the legendary Pokemon. If you don’t have access to the above methods, this is the next best thing. Since you only have one turn to move, your best bet is to throw quick balls. Throw it at Uxie after interacting with it and if you’re lucky, you can capture it fairly quickly. Personally, I used this method and captured the Pokemon on my first try. If you fail to capture it, simply restart the game and try again.
AZELF – LAKE VALOR
Finally, with Azelf head on over to Valor Lakefront near Pastoria City. Like the other legendary Pokemon, Azelf will be sitting in the middle of the cavern on the lake. Similar to Uxie, you’ll be able to battle the Pokemon before it flees. Make sure to create a save before interacting with it, regardless of which previously mentioned method you choose to use.
HOW TO CATCH
Azelf is similar to Uxie so you’ll be able to battle it. The best method and easiest will always be to use the master ball. Of course, there are others I mentioned above that works too if you want to keep the master ball for later. Personally, I simply created a save and threw a quick ball at Azelf. If I didn’t capture it, I simply restarted the game and tried again. The quick ball is pretty strong so it shouldn’t take many tries.
OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
For those that intend to weaken the legendary trio, it’s highly recommended to pick up False Swipes. You can buy this at the department store in Veilstone City. Essentially, False Swipe is a normal physical move with 40 power. Although not super strong, when used, it will leave the target with at least 1 hp. This will put the trio at their weakest making it easier to catch them. Unfortunately, Murkrow is not able to learn this move so if you’re using Mean Look, Absol might be a better pick if you have it.
On the off chance that you accidentally fainted one of the three legendary Pokemon, it’s still possible to obtain them. If you complete the Elite Four, any of the legendary Pokemon that fainted will respawn. If you already challenged and beat the Elite Four, you’ll essentially have to go through them again. This feature was first introduced in Pokemon Platinum which came after Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. It’s great that they decided to include this feature in the remakes.
You don’t need to capture them to complete the Sinnoh Dex, fortunately, but it’s still nice to have them. So, how did it go? Manage to capture the three legendary Pokemon? Have you captured the other legendary Pokemon in Ramanas Park? Let us know!
