Command and Conquer Remastered - Covert Operations Campaign Walkthrough Guide Cover

The missions in Command and Conquer’s Covert Operations expansion pack are somewhat simpler than those of the main game. Mostly you are given every tool the game offers to build your base and destroy your enemies and this is exactly how I like to play RTS games. But, just because the missions are simple, doesn’t mean they’re easy.

I’ve gone through the missions as they’re laid out in the mission select screen which is why the mission numbers don’t always follow. If you enjoy this content, please check out some of our other Command and Conquer guides like our General Strategy Guide or GDI Campaign Guide.

GDI 22 – Blackout

GDI 22 – Blackout

GDI 22 – Blackout

Mission: Cut Nod power to disable their Obelisks of Light then establish your base and wipe out Nod forces.

You start this mission with 2 Commando units. Send them South and follow the path that will lead you into a small Nod base. There are a few soldiers to take out on the way there, some are hiding behind trees. Before you enter the base, you’ll kill their last Rocket Soldier and make Air Strikes available for you. Use the Air Strike to destroy the Flame Tank protecting the base entrance, then send your Commandos in to take out the Power Plants.

Move your Commandos through the base and wait a few moments for your MCV to arrive. Take your MCV to your Commandos and establish your base there, there are Tiberium patches on both sides but be careful of the Turrets surrounding you. You may need to train a few infantry to take out some of the closer Turrets so your harvesters can work in peace.

You can add a couple of Helipads and have your Orcas take care of the Turrets and Obelisks of Light around the map but don’t send them into the enemy base as they have a number of SAM Sites that will shoot them down. The enemy base is located in the North-East and the Temple of Nod is in the North-West. Don’t attack the Temple of Nod just yet as they’ll launch a nuclear strike as soon as you do. Take out the primary base first and cut their power before going after the Temple.

GDI 23 – Hell’s Fury

GDI 23 – Hell’s Fury

GDI 23 – Hell’s Fury

Mission: Stop the Brotherhood from rebuilding their temple and launching a nuclear attack.

Take the group of soldiers you’re given and move them East where you’ll find a small Nod base. Destroy the base and you’ll receive further reinforcements, including an MCV. Build your base in the spot where you just destroyed the Nod base.

You will need to build a strong ground force since the enemy bases are well guarded. You’ll find 3 enemy bases spread out from the North-Western corner to the North-Eastern corner. Each base has a few Obelisks of Light guarding them. I’d suggest adding a few Rocket Launchers to your army as these can shoot the enemy buildings hiding behind walls.

You can attack the left or middle base first, but the base to the top right can only be accessed through a small pathway right at the top of the map from the corner of the left base.

GDI 36 – Infiltration

GDI 36 – Infiltration

GDI 36 – Infiltration

Mission: Recapture our base and destroy Nod forces in the area.

Remove the enemy forces in your base and train a few Engineers to recapture the buildings they took from you. Unfortunately, due to the advantages the AI enjoys, they will now be allowed to place buildings like Turrets inside your base for the remainder of the mission, even after you take everything back.

The enemy will continue to send Engineers to try and capture your buildings but your Guard Towers should take care of them, just make sure there are no holes in your perimeter walls for them to slip through. The enemy base is in the North-Eastern corner. They don’t have many defenses but they have a high unit count so prepare for a fight. Destroy everything.

GDI 38 – Elemental Imperative

GDI 38 – Elemental Imperative

GDI 38 – Elemental Imperative

Mission: Help a local civilian free his wife. He’ll then lead you to the enemy so you can retrieve the items they stole from us.

There is a civilian town to the North. Clear out all enemy units in there, then move to the North-Western corner where the civilian’s wife will appear. As soon as you reach her, a Transport Helicopter will appear. Send her into the helicopter and she’ll be taken to safety.

Finally, move your units to the North-East across the bridge and you’ll find 2 blue crates containing the items Nod stole. Collect these crates to complete the mission.

GDI 40 – Ground Zero

GDI 40 – Ground Zero

GDI 40 – Ground Zero

Mission: Get everyone to the evacuation point before the Nod missile lands.

You’ll see enemy forces attack some civilians but leave one behind. Send your forces along the road to the South, then East towards this civilian. Once you reach him, you’ll receive some reinforcements. Go further South and kill the enemy Flamethrower Infantry to receive a Medium Tank. Go back North, past the point where your forces landed. There’s a small passage to the East that leads further North, go through here but be careful with your infantry around that Tiberium patch.

Just past this point, you’ll meet an enemy Flame Tank. Use your Medium Tank to take him out as he’ll run over your infantry and his flames are very effective against them. Once he’s out of the way, you’ll receive a few more reinforcements including a Light Scout which you can use to scout the rest of the map. If he gets into trouble, run back to your forces and wait for whatever is chasing you.

Move through the mountains all the way to the Northern border of the map and proceed West from there, be careful when moving your troops past the Tiberium. You’ll reach a civilian town with a Tech Center and 3 scientists. Blow a hole in the fence around the Tech Center so the scientists can get out. Do this quickly or the nuclear missile will kill them all when it hits the Tech Center.

After the missile hits, a couple of Flame Tanks will arrive from the North. Get the scientists to safety and kill the Flame Tanks. Next, move everyone into the Southern path and continue through the labyrinth of mountains. There will be a few more enemies to kill so be careful with the civilians. You need to move them to the green smoke further down which will prompt a Transport Helicopter to arrive and take them home.

GDI 41 – Twist of Fate

GDI 41 – Twist of Fate

GDI 41 – Twist of Fate

Mission: Eliminate all Nod forces in the area.

Your units are scattered across the map, move them all South to your Helipads, and kill the units you see. An MCV should appear in a bit which you can also move South and deploy in the open space West of your Helipads.

There are 2 enemy bases, one to the North of your position and another to the West. The base to the North is small but is well defended. The Western base, however, is a fortress. I’d recommend getting a few Orca’s ready to take out the Obelisks of Light before sending in your ground forces. Even then, you will need a significant force to take it out. When you’re done here, send your troops to the North-Western corner of the map where you’ll find a few lost buildings. If destroying these doesn’t complete the mission then be sure to check for stray Harvesters or Stealth Tanks.

GDI 50 – Twist of Fate

GDI 50 – Twist of Fate

GDI 50 – Twist of Fate

Mission: Use your Commando to take out the SAM Sites and receive reinforcements. Then destroy all Nod units and structures.

The start of this mission was very tricky and I’m not sure if this is the way the developers intended for this mission to play out but here goes. Send your Commando to the small Nod base to the West. Destroy the Turret and SAM Sites, but not the other buildings. Once the defenses are out of the way, a Transport Helicopter will arrive with Engineers so you can capture the base. You can sell some of the buildings but try and keep the Hand of Nod and a Power Plant.

There is another base to the far East of this island. Your Commando would have been able to take this base by himself had it not been for the Obelisk of Light at the entrance. Use the resources you gained from selling some of the buildings to train a single Engineer and use the rest to train Minigunners. Send all your troops to the second base but send your Minigunners in first to remove the Obelisk of Light, then use your Commando to take out the Turrets and all the infantry inside the base. Have your Engineer capture the Refinery while the Harvester is unloading so you can get some more funds. Train more Engineers and capture the rest of the important buildings like the Construction Yard then take out the rest of the base to receive a Transport Helicopter which can transport your troops to the opposite side of the river.

There are a few enemy units waiting on the opposite side of the river but you should now have access to Air Strikes and can use that to clear the field. Don’t send your Commando across because there are too many vehicles that can kill him. Instead, send a mixture of infantry to clear the base on the landing point but use an Engineer to capture at least one building so you can start a new base on this side of the river. You will get attacked quite frequently the first few minutes so be prepared for that.

There are two enemy bases left to the North-East and North-West respectively. The Eastern base will be easier to take out but be sure to leave some defenses at home. The base to the West has a bunch of defenses and units, it will not be easy to destroy.

Nod 20 – Bad Neighborhood

Nod 20 – Bad Neighborhood

Nod 20 – Bad Neighborhood

Mission: Remain undetected until your base is ready, then eliminate all GDI units and structures.

You will be left alone until a GDI or civilian unit spots you so you are safe for now. However, the Tiberium next to your base will be mined out quickly and if you go to the next closest field, which is to the East, civilians will spot you and the enemy will start their attacks.

It’s nothing to worry about though, build one Obelisk of Light and a few units and you should be fine. The enemy base is located in the North-East. You can attack from any direction but the opening to the South is the widest and will be easiest to access with a large force.

Nod 21 – Deceit

Nod 21 – Deceit

Nod 21 – Deceit

Mission: Recapture your base and wipe out the GDI presence.

Move your units all the way to the West, don’t go North or South because you’ll just be blocked by enemy Guard Towers. Kill any units you encounter and when you’re near the end you’ll see some walls with more Guard Towers. A green flare will ignite behind the walls to let you know that you’re in the right place. Use your Commandos to destroy the 3 Guard Towers, it’s risky but you should be able to do it without losing them. Behind the walls, you’ll find your base.

Repair your base and build an army. There are a bunch of enemy towers scattered across the map, but their main base is in the North-East.

Nod 30 – Eviction Notice

Nod 30 – Eviction Notice

Nod 30 – Eviction Notice

Mission: Clear out the civilian village to the East and build your base there, then wipe out the GDI forces in the area.

The Flame Tanks you received will clear out that village quite nicely and you can start on your base. You will get attacked often so I’d recommend putting down some defenses, a few Obelisks of Light should do fine.

The enemy base is North-West and is heavily defended, there are also a lot of troops scattered around the map. Build up your forces and take them out.

Nod 31 – The Tiberium Strain

Nod 31 – The Tiberium Strain

Nod 31 – The Tiberium Strain

Mission: Destroy the GDI Bio Centers but leave the rest of the base intact.

Move your forces South until you find the path that leads across the river. Continue with the path through the civilian village. Kill the GDI and civilian units you find but be careful not to destroy any of the buildings or you’ll fail the mission.

The Chem Warriors you receive in this mission function very much like Flamethrower Infantry, they are just as destructive but will not damage each other. They also cannot be harmed by walking over Tiberium. When you’ve cleared out the village, go back North but do not cross the river again and follow the path East. This path will take you down to the South-Eastern corner of the map, you should proceed North from here until you reach the GDI base. Kill all units in the base along with the 3 Bio Centers but again, don’t destroy any other buildings. Their defenses are focussed on the West side of the base so you shouldn’t have any problem slipping in from the South.

Nod 32 – Cloak and Dagger

Nod 32 – Cloak and Dagger

Nod 32 – Cloak and Dagger

Mission: Rescue your MCV, build a base, and destroy the GDI forces.

You start this mission with only a single Stealth Tank. Follow the path around the map and be careful not to engage any enemy units. The enemy base where your MCV is being held is in the North-West, all you need to do is get your Stealth Tank inside the base and destroy the walls holding your MCV in, then you can move it out. Your MCV will be attacked on its way out but it’ll be fine.

I chose a spot South-East of the GDI base to establish my own as there was some open space and Tiberium nearby. You may need to get that Hand of Nod up quickly so you can train a few soldiers to help defend your base. Get some defenses up as soon as you can because you’ll be attacked from all sides and GDI will try and capture your Refineries with their Engineers.

Once you have a sufficient ground force, send them back into the GDI base and wipe out everything.

Nod 33 – Hostile Takeover

Nod 33 – Hostile Takeover

Nod 33 – Hostile Takeover

Mission: Destroy all GDI units and structures.

Move your units across the bridge, take out the Medium Tank guarding it. On the other side, you’ll find a Hand of Nod and Communications Center. Sell the Communications Center and use the funds to train some Minigunners. When you’re out of funds, sell the Hand of Nod to gain a couple of extra soldiers. Kill the 3 Tanks to the West and move a bit further South-West and destroy the Guard Towers and Transport Helicopters stationed there.

This will reveal a green flare to the North which is your next checkpoint. There’s another tank in your way before you reach the flare. You’ll find a broken down base just North of the flare, get it up and running, and build your army. There is some Tiberium above you but be careful as there are a few Guard Towers above that which will fire on your Harvesters when they get too close.

For some reason, the more advanced buildings are not available in this mission like the Advanced Power Plant and Temple of Nod, but you can still build all the needed vehicles. The enemy base is East of your location and has entrances to the West and North. The Northern entrance is the widest and will make it easier to get a large force into the base.

Nod 35 – Under Siege

Nod 35 – Under Siege

Nod 35 – Under Siege

Mission: Survive the onslaught and kill all GDI units and structures.

You start this game with a full base, but no funds or Refineries. You will be heavily attacked by GDI and need to survive the various attacks. You have a few units to start with but can also sell unnecessary buildings like the Temple of Nod, Repair Depot, and Communications Center to gain some additional funds for extra units.

Once the attacks are over, you can send your units to the North-West where you’ll find a tiny GDI base. After the attacks, they only have their base defenses left which are only a few Guard Towers and Advanced Guard Towers. Destroy all the buildings to complete the mission.

Nod 37 – Nod Death Squad

Nod 37 – Nod Death Squad

Nod 37 – Nod Death Squad

Mission: Destroy the enemy Advanced Communications Center.

The enemy base is North but both entrances are guarded and you only have a few units at your disposal. Take one of your Stealth tanks to explore East, past all the Guard Towers, and blow a hole in the perimeter wall to the far East. Sneak your Commando unit in to take out some of the infantry standing around. Next, sneak the rest of your units into the base one by one, avoiding the Guard Towers and without alerting the other units.

The Advanced Communications Center is further North-East, but there are a few obstacles on the way there, including a Mammoth Tank guarding the entrance to that section of the base. Now you can use your units as a distraction to lure all the enemy units to them, including the Mammoth Tank, creating an opening for your Commando to slip through and bomb the Advanced Communications Center before they can react.

Oh man… you found none of the special mechanics in these missions, and barely any of this will work in Hard mode. Don’t you know you can capture enemy transport helicopters with engineers?

Hell’s Fury: build a helipad as soon as possible and you receive a Transport Helicopter. You can use that to drop off forces at the flare before the enemy has its SAM Sites operational, completely cripple their power stations in the top right corner, and then take out the Construction Yard on the east side which is now no longer protected by its Obelisks.

Infiltration: Selling the Refinery is the quickest way to remove the engineers. Make sure to build something over the spot where they keep rebuilding the turret.

Elemental Imperative: Ignore the wife. Just use the helicopter yourself to hop your Commando over the cliffs and river to the crates.

Twist of Fate: Try to keep the Mammoth Tanks at the top alive so they can help protect the MCV. Their ability to regenerate is invaluable. Destroying the Comm Center in the top left disables Nod’s airstrikes.

You misnamed “Blindsided” (GDI 50) btw.

Bad Neighborhood: If you actually actively go and kill the civilians from the start, GDI’s attacks will NEVER start.

Deceit: Capture the enemy transport helicopter and you can just fly into your base. Also, The enemy base is not actually built from the start. If you’re very fast, and distract their ORcas with one of your Commandos, you can drop the other Commando and some engineers in their base before they have Advanced Guard Towers built.

Eviction Notice: Their Advanced Comm Center is completely unprotected from the south, making it easy to take out with just two Stealth Tanks, thus getting rid of the ion cannon strikes.

The Tiberium Strain: Chem Warriors are atually anti-armour. Primarily use them against the tanks on the map.

Cloak and Dagger: Attack the village to the east and civilians will come to ask for help, which will temporarily lure away the two Mammoth Tanks.

Hostile Takeover: You missed EVERYTHING in this one. Build an Engineer and you can capture one of the transport helicopters to get to your base safely. The village right next to where you start has a money crate under the church, and provides an excellent infiltration point to take over the enemy base from the start. You just need to very carefully take out the Guard towers with bazookas.

Under Siege: Use the Stealth Tank to get the money crate under the Church in the south. Use the Nuke before you sell the Temple. The huge rush will only start if all vehicles on one of the three sides are destroyed. You can actually wipe out one side partially so your harvester can safely go through.

      Hi Nyerguds,

Thanks for the reply and all the info. I’m pretty sure there are several ways of completing each mission, it just depends on your play style and which units you enjoy using. You make some good points though, I’m eager to give some of these a shot.

Hi Dyat. That’s the way the missions are numbered in the game.

They’re not actually consecutive missions, so the numbers have no real meaning. They were just numbered like that internally in the original game for some reason.

    Great guide!

Though actually fed up, just finished the Covert Ops missions on hard and the achievement didn’t pop! SO annoyed!

Thank you, I’m glad I could help.
Oh man, that sucks. There are still a lot of bugs that need to get resolved in the remastered collection, hopefully you’ll still get the achievement once they get this fixed.

There are guides out for fixing the achievement progress sync problem. Basically, you need to temporarily remove your game progress file and then finish a mission from the affected series, and the achievement progress should sync correctly. Search around for websites mentioning “Player_TD_settings_1.bin” and you should find a guide to fix it.
