Command and Conquer Remastered: Counterstrike Campaign Walkthrough Guide

Follow our guide to navigate the twisty paths of Command and Conquer's Counterstrike expansion pack. Meet new generals, receive some crazy assignments, and play with Chitzkoi, the robot dog. It's all the info necessary to accomplish your goal.

Command and Conquer Remastered - Counter Strike Campaign Walkthrough Guide

Counterstrike is the first of 2 expansion packs for Command and Conquer Red Alert. Unlike Tiberium Dawn’s Covert Operations expansion, here you actually receive some additional cutscenes featuring new characters, as well as some new unit types like Tesla Tanks and Cybernetic Dogs. The order of the missions seem off since the last couple of missions in the Soviet campaign were among the easiest, but I completed them as they feature in the mission select screen and included a screenshot of each mission to give you as much information as possible.

If you find this guide useful, check out our other guides for the Command and Conquer Remastered collection including a General Strategy Guide, and guides for both the Soviet and Allied campaigns.

If you have yet to join the action, you can still purchase this collection from AllYouPlay.

Greece – Crackdown

Greece – Crackdown

Greece – Crackdown

Mission: Infiltrate the Soviet Radar Dome with a Spy to locate the convoy. Destroy the convoy and the rest of the base. The convoy must not escape.

The Soviet base is stretched out across the Eastern side of the map and the Radar Dome you need to infiltrate is in the North-East corner. You can access it by moving along the Northern border of the map, through a civilian town. Note, however, that there are Attack Dogs guarding the Radar Dome so you will need to send guards with your Spies when infiltrating it.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll see the location of the Cargo Trucks you need to destroy. There is a path to the South you need to guard where the trucks will try and escape. Be sure to guard that path before attacking the base. Assemble your forces and destroy all Soviet units and structures but be sure not to let any of the Cargo Trucks escape.

Greece – Down Under

Greece – Down Under

Greece – Down Under

Mission: Reach the exit of the facility

Use your Spies to scout ahead but be careful of enemy Attack Dogs. Save regularly as you only have a limited number of troops available.

Send your Spy to the control center above you to destroy the Flame Tower ahead. Kill the infantry in the next room and send your Spy into the Northern hallway. At the end is another room with a control center which will destroy one of the Flame Towers in the room below when your Spy interacts with it. Next, send your Spy down the Southern hallway to the room at the end and infiltrate the War Factory. He’ll get into a Cargo Truck and drive to a room with another control center. Avoid the dog patrol and interact with the control center to destroy the last Flame Tower and let the rest of your soldiers through.

Move your soldiers into the hallway to the East. Watch out for the 2 Attack Dogs guarding this section. There are also a few soldiers but you can shoot the oil barrels in this area to make quick work of them. In the next room are a bunch of Grenadiers hiding behind a wall. They can attack you, but you can’t attack them so do not enter this room just yet. There’s another Attack Dog in this room, send one of your soldiers to kill him so your Spy can continue working. You might lose this soldier but when the dog is out of the way, send your Spy to the control center in the bottom right corner which will detonate bombs and kill the Grenadiers.

Greece – Down Under 2

Greece – Down Under 2

Send your Spy further North. In the next room are two Tesla Coils attacking each other, heaven knows why. Send your Spy to the control center here to destroy one of the Tesla Coils and put the other one under your control. A Mammoth Tank will appear but the Tesla Coil will take care of it.

Follow the path into the next room that also has a Mammoth Tank. There’s a control center on the far side of the room, interact with it and more Tesla Coils will appear to kill the tank. This room has several paths leading out, send your Spy down the bottom right hallway. Agent Tanya is hiding at the end but she’s guarded by 2 Flame Towers. There is a control center down there that will destroy the towers and release Tanya. Have her kill the enemy soldiers and she can join the rest of your troops. Next, send her down the bottom, left hallway. There will be a number of enemy soldiers here and a few of your own units being kept prisoner. One of the enemy soldiers will kill your people when you get near so use Tanya to take him out first, then the rest so you can rescue the rest of your soldiers.

Now you can proceed East and clear out the rest of the enemy soldiers. I’d recommend just using Tanya to do all the dirty work and send in the rest of your people once she’s cleared the way. The final room is filled with oil barrels and has several Flame Towers guarding it, there’s also one more control center. Destroy the barrels and send a Spy to the control center to take out the towers. Move your soldiers to the edge of the hall and you’re home free.

Greece – Controlled Burn

Greece – Controlled Burn

Greece – Controlled Burn

Mission: Infiltrate a Power Plant to disable the Tesla Coils so reinforcements can arrive. Next, capture the Sarin Facilities and destroy the rest of the Soviet base.

Move your Spy East down the path and you’ll see a Mammoth Tank patrolling the way. Move the rest of your forces behind the tank but keep your distance and do not engage. The Mammoth Tank will patrol past the Eastern base and there’s an Attack Dog at the entrance so keep your Spy away. Use your units to destroy the units and defenses at the base entrance then send your Spy into a Power Plant and destroy the rest of the Power Plants to take the wall of Tesla Coils offline. You can use those units to take out the rest of the base, you won’t meet any further resistance.

When the base is offline your reinforcements will arrive just South of your current location. Move your MCV down the path where there’s a little more room to establish your base. The enemy’s main base is to your West, build up your ground forces, and take it out. There are 5 Sarin facilities that you need to capture with Engineers but you can destroy everything else. There’s also a stray Airfield and Flame Tower in the South-West corner.

Greece – Evacuation

Greece – Evacuation

Greece – Evacuation

Mission: Evacuate at least one civilian from each of the 4 towns to the Island in the North-East.

The civilian villages are scattered across the map, as soon as you enter one of them the civilians will emerge and you can take them to safety. There’s a Soviet base to the far South, and the only point where you can load the civilians into Transports is at the end of this base.

Build a Naval Yard and clear out all the Submarines. You have 2 options, rescue all the civilians and take out just enough of the Soviet base so you can safely load the civilians into Transports, or just take out the entire base.  Since you need to move through the enemy base to load the civilians, there’s really no point in rescuing any of them, just kill all enemies and you’ll complete the mission.

Siberia – Fresh Tracks

Siberia – Fresh Tracks

Siberia – Fresh Tracks

Mission: Destroy the cargo from all 7 convoys.

You can’t construct any buildings in this mission and there is also no enemy base to eliminate. You’ll notice the timer ticking down. When it reaches 0, the enemy convoys will arrive and move through the area. Use the time you have to explore the map, there aren’t many enemy units so you don’t need a large force but build your ground forces while exploring so you can cover a large area of the map when the convoys arrive.

When you’ve cleared the map, split your forces into small groups, and position them across all the pathways. When the timer runs out, destroy all the enemy convoys. Be careful with their cargo, it’s nuclear and will take out entire groups of units, they could be devastating to your troops but could also be used to take out enemy groups when needed.

The first convoy will arrive just East of your base and the second just North. The third and fourth convoys will arrive from the North-Western corner of the map and the fifth will appear slightly East but also from a Northern pathway. The sixth convoy will appear inside your base but will come with some heavy protection and the final convoy will appear from the North, slightly to the East of the path where convoy no. 5 came from.

Siberia – Trapped

Siberia – Trapped

Siberia – Trapped

Mission: Destroy the Soviet compound and all Cargo Trucks. No Cargo Trucks are allowed to escape.

Establish your base and start building that army. Be careful of some Engineer groups who will try and rush your base to capture key buildings. Just have some Pillboxes in place and they shouldn’t be a problem.

The enemy has a large base to the South-East that is heavily defended. The Cargo Trucks are in the South-Eastern corner around the nuclear facilities. When you start attacking, they will try and escape which you cannot allow. If they can’t escape, they’ll run into your units and have their nukes detonate which will devastate your army so, if possible, separate your forces into small groups. This is exactly what happened to me the moment I took the screenshot of this mission, the area I’m focussed on is where their nuclear facilities had been just a few moments ago.

There are also a few Submarines in the water running around the map. A group of about 5 Destroyers should be enough to take care of these and you can even use them to take out some of the tanks and Tesla Coils close to the shore.

Siberia – Wasteland

Siberia – Wasteland

Siberia – Wasteland

Mission: Destroy all Soviet units and structures.

This mission is pretty straight-forward. There’s no water so don’t worry about building a Naval Yard, just focus on getting your ground army up as soon as possible. You also have access to Helipads and can use your Attack Helicopters if you like but this is entirely up to you.

One recommendation I would make is to build one additional Ore Refinery than you usually would because the ore is pretty wide-spread in this mission and your economy will be slow. You can also use the second MCV you received to build a second base to the East so you have 2 points to build refineries.

The enemy base is spread out across the Southern portion of the map and there are a lot of defenses so make sure your army is up to the task. Wipe everything out.

Siberia – Personal War

Siberia – Personal War

Siberia – Personal War

Mission: Escort Stavros through the town and evacuate him. Stavros must survive.

You start this mission with Stavros and Agent Tanya. Stavros can defend himself, but he’s nowhere near as capable as Tanya so let her do all the heavy lifting. Move them East to the end of the map, kill the soldiers attacking the village and proceed North. When you reach the edge of the village there will be a bunch of Grenadiers to kill and a plane will drop some soldiers behind you so you will get sandwiched in if you aren’t careful. When you’re done with them, a Mammoth Tank will approach from the North and you don’t have the units to take it down so slip into the pathway to the West that will take you around it. Once you’re safely past the tank, continue North until you reach the Allied base.

Do not linger in the base as it will be destroyed within moments. There’s a blue crate that will heal Tanya and Stavros, grab this if you have an opportunity and move along to the West to the shore where a few Medium Tanks will be dropped to help out. Use these tanks to destroy the units pursuing you and the Mammoth Tanks to the South. Once you’re past them you’ll find another village. Get to the other side of the village quickly before they drop the nuke on it and kill your units. You’ll reach a river with 2 bridges but before you cross, check below you for another blue crate to heal your units.

Be careful when crossing the river as there’s a Tesla Coil waiting on the other side. Once it’s revealed a plane will drop some infantry units for you. Ignore the Tesla Coil and run behind it to shoot the oil barrels and destroy the Power Plant then the Tesla Coil will cease to function. To the North is a long bridge that will have 2 Mammoth Tanks approaching when you try to cross it. You can shoot the oil barrels nearby to destroy the bridge and hopefully take the tanks with it.

Proceed further West, there’s another path leading North where you’ll find a Soviet base. Use your tanks to destroy the Flame Tower and any tanks that approach but you can use Tanya to easily take out any infantry. You should now also receive some additional tanks from the North. Take out the enemy base if you wish, just get Stavros through it to the Transport Helicopter waiting in the North.

Ukraine – Mousetrap

Mission: Kill Stavros

Stavros will be teleporting around the compound using the Chronosphere but you have been given some Engineers who can also use this technology.

Kill the troops to the North and send your Engineers to interact with the control center above you, then continue along the path East and then North. You’ll reach another control center, have your Engineers work on it, and destroy one of the Chronospheres. There are 2 more control centers above you but these don’t seem to do anything when interacted with.

Move down the Western hallway and you should receive some reinforcements. If you proceed West to the end of the hallway, you’ll find a damaged Chronosphere. Send one of your Engineers into the Chronosphere to have him teleport to another room filled with Power Plants. There is also a control center he can interact with that will destroy some of the Power Plants and prompt more reinforcements to arrive.

Ukraine – Mousetrap 2

Ukraine – Mousetrap 2

There is another hallway leading North, after regrouping your soldiers, send them up there. The hallway will split North and East, continue North for now. You’ll find a few soldiers to kill up there as well as some crates that will heal your units. You will also receive a few more reinforcements when heading up there. Now, head into the Eastern hallway, there are a few more enemy soldiers and a control center. Kill the soldiers and have your last Engineer interact with the control center.

Go back to the center of the map so you can move East to the area you haven’t explored yet. When you enter the next room you’ll notice walls separating the room into 3 sections. Do not move your soldiers through the middle because they will inexplicably drop dead. Rather take small groups of units and move them around the bottom of the room to the other side. Stavros is standing right above you now but he’s guarded by some troops. Kill his bodyguards and then take him out.

Ukraine – Paradox Equation

Ukraine – Paradox Equation

Ukraine – Paradox Equation

Mission: Investigate the broken message received from our scouts and capture the Chronosphere if possible.

Move your MCV a little to the North before deploying so you’re not restricted by the hills around you. The ore at this location will be mined out quickly but if you explore further North you’ll find some more. It seems that your Heavy Tanks fire electricity like Tesla Tanks and your Mammoth Tanks breath fire in this mission, this will come in useful but be aware that the Allied tanks and Turrets received a major increase in fire range. This is the only mission where tanks work like this, which is a shame since it was rather fun.

There’s a small Allied base to the South-West. You can capture a building here and place another Ore Refinery to help your economy along. There’s a second, larger base in the North-West but the Chronosphere is hiding on the island in the middle. There are some units protecting it, but nothing serious. Clear out the island and send an Engineer to capture the Chronosphere.

Ukraine – Nuclear Escalation

Ukraine – Nuclear Escalation

Ukraine – Nuclear Escalation

Mission: Destroy all Allied units and structures.

The Allies are testing a new bomb that will be dropped on random areas around the map. I expected this to be a problem but none of the detonations was near my base. There’s a relay station in the Western base that will reveal the testing center if you capture it. The Air Strikes will continue until you destroy their Tech Center.

Your technology will take a step back from the previous mission and your tanks return to normal. You can build an Airfield to unlock the Spy Plane, but you only have access to the Yak aircraft. The small Ore field next to your base will not last long but there is more to be mined in the East, just keep some units close to protect your Harvesters.

First, send some troops to the East to destroy that base and capture the relay station. There’s a civilian town on the way there, destroy this as it forms part of the Allied forces. The Western base isn’t very well defended so you shouldn’t have any trouble running over them, destroy the entire base.

Once this is done proceed to the base in the North-East. This base has more defenses and may pose a bigger challenge. Destroy the Tech Center and the rest of the Allied base to complete the mission.

Ukraine – Legacy of Tesla

Ukraine – Legacy of Tesla

Ukraine – Legacy of Tesla

Mission: Destroy the Allied base and their prototype aircraft.

You don’t have a Construction Yard so there’s no base to build at first. Just build up your ground forces and attack. Normally I recommend not adding more than 2 Harvesters to a Refinery but in this case, you are unable to build another Refinery and the Ore is pretty far from your base so having 3 Harvesters should be fine.

The main thing to be aware of in this mission is the Allies’ new aircraft that drops nukes. Once you enter their base, they will start bombarding your forces. If you see the plane, use the few seconds you have before the nuke drops to get your units to a safe distance. Once you start attacking, you need to be on the attack constantly. The moment you head back to your base and lay low, that’s when those nukes will start dropping on your base and you can’t replace any buildings it destroys.

There is a large Allied base in the South-East which you can attack first. There are several entrances and all of them are protected with at least 2 Turrets and 2 to 4 Pillboxes. Send some Engineers along so you can capture their Construction Yard, then you can expand your base. The first thing you need to build is a Barracks. Once it’s up, train about 15 – 20 Rocket Soldiers and station them on the Western side of this base with your main force more to the East. The Allies’ new aircraft will continue to try and bomb your units but once your Rocket Soldiers destroy it, you won’t have to worry about it any longer. Trust me, this plane will be an endless headache if you don’t take care of it quickly.

There’s another small base to the North-West which should fall quickly. This base has a Naval Yard which you can capture or you can build one in the Southern base you took over. The threats in the water are minimal so you only need a few Gunboats or Destroyers. The only threat is a few Destroyers in the South-West corner, this is also the only drop point for the lower island.

You will need a few Transports so you can take your ground units to the 2 islands. The top island houses a few Helipads which would have made themselves quite a nuisance by now but there isn’t much resistance here. The bottom island houses the rest of the Allied forces as well as the Airfield that use to host that nuclear aircraft. Destroy everything.

Austria – Proving Grounds

Austria – Proving Grounds

Austria – Proving Grounds

Mission: Reclaim your bases as they are revealed. Once your Sub Pen is up, build Submarines to take out the enemy Cruisers.

Take your 2 Mammoth Tanks to the area revealed on the map. When you get close, a Transport will arrive with some Allied units. Destroy them and proceed North to the checkpoint where another base will be revealed. Another Transport will arrive South-East of your base and deliver Agent Tanya who will try and destroy your base. Kill her before she gets the chance then send your new Harvesters to start mining. The next point will now be revealed to the North-East, proceed in that direction. Another Transport will arrive East of your second base, kill those units before heading off. When you reach the next point, you’ll finally have access to a War Factory and can add some tanks to your army.

The next Waypoint is to the North-West but now that you have some additional units, you might want to send some back to your second base to defend your Harvesters when they get attacked. This waypoint doesn’t contain any more of your buildings but rather the Allied Airfields and Naval Yard. Take these out and move to the next waypoint in the middle of the map which will finally give you a Construction Yard and Sub Pen.

Train some Submarines and start clearing out the water. These are not normal Submarines, mind you. They shoot nuclear torpedoes which are much more potent. Be careful though, the Submarines are clumsy enough as it is, if they hit each other now, the effects are that much more devastating. Your Submarines will need to travel around the map to reach the Carriers, once you destroy them, the mission is a success.

Austria – Besieged

Austria – Besieged

Austria – Besieged

Mission: Eliminate the Allied Saboteur and then the rest of the Allied forces in the area. Your Command Center must remain standing.

The Saboteur will immediately cripple your base by destroying your Construction Yard. Luckily you still have an active Harvester and unit production facilities. Take your available units down through the South entrance of your base, move West to the edge of the map, then all the way North to the base where the Saboteur is hiding. He will escape as soon as you get near but you can easily clean up the base.

In the interim, add a few more tanks to your army and also build a few Submarines. You can use the Submarines to clear the seas when you have time but the enemy ships won’t be a problem for you so don’t make this a priority. The Saboteur will next appear in the North-East. This base will also not be much of a challenge especially with the added units you should have by now. When you get close the Saboteur will flee to the North-Eastern corner of the map and hide inside the Technology Center. Destroy this building to finally be rid of him.

There is another base just below the one you just destroyed but you’ll need to move back toward your own base, then East to access it. Destroy everything that remains to complete the mission.

Austria – Soviet Soldier Volkov and Chitzkoi

Austria – Soviet Soldier Volkov and Chitzkoi

Austria – Soviet Soldier Volkov and Chitzkoi

Mission: Destroy the Allied Control Center and Alloy Facility.

In this mission, you have Soldier Volkov and his cybernetic dog Chitzkoi. Volkov is a lot like Agent Tanya, only stronger as his attacks can take out vehicles as well. Chitzkoi is an Attack Dog, but much stronger and faster. As the mission starts, you’ll be surrounded by oil barrels that will be ignited and you won’t even have a scratch on you.

Move your units North along the path and destroy any Allied unit or structure you encounter. No need to worry about anything, not even tanks, Pillboxes, or even Agent Tanya, they can’t harm you. Proceed all around the map until you reach the base to the East where you’ll find the Control Center. This building looks like the standard Allied Tech Center.

The Alloy Facility is not within your reach so you’ll use the other, standard units you have available to the South. This will be the only time when the Mammoth Tank feels underwhelming. Move them North into the Allied base and destroy the facility. There is some resistance in this base but nothing that should worry you.

Austria – Top o’ the World

Austria – Top o’ the World

Austria – Top o’ the World

Mission: The Cargo Truck must reach the way station atop the mountain.

Due to freezing temperatures, your units will not last long. Infantry will only last 20 minutes while vehicles can last up to an hour. I thought the Russians were impervious to cold.

This mission is fairly simple. There is only one path to take so just keep moving your units forward. You will meet numerous enemies but your forces should be more than sufficient to take them out. You’ll also be shot by Turrets along the ridgelines. Your tanks should be able to reach these in most cases but you can also use your V2 Rocket Launchers to destroy them from a safe distance. Just keep your Cargo Truck safely tucked away behind the rest of your forces.

The way station is a Soviet base in the North-East. Get the Cargo Truck in there to complete the mission.
