The new and last game that bears the name FIFA was released not so long ago, and it brought with it drastic changes in the gameplay, compared to the last FIFA title. FIFA 23 is different from the other FIFA serials because of many things, slow gameplay, lengthy players, overpowered corners and much more. Most players of this game are still looking for the best formations & tactics, meta players, skill moves, and other little tricks that would help them defeat their opponents. But let’s first look at the main thing, what are lengthy players?
What Are Lengthy Players in FIFA 23?
A new addition to the game called “AcceleRATE” separates each player into three types: Controlled, Explosive and Lengthy. Therefore, each category accelerates differently in the game and has its own characteristics, but also in order for the player to belong to one of these categories, he must possess certain physical requirements. For example, for a player to be explosive, he must be shorter than 180cm (5’11”) and be very fast and agile. The characteristic of explosive players is that they have a very fast start with the ball, but as they are running they are slowing down. They are useful in the middle of the pitch because they can swiftly move past any other player in the centre when they receive the ball.
Lengthy players however, are the strong & tall ones that have a slow start but as they are running they are getting faster and faster. Anyone who played the last FIFA series knows that players like Harry Kane or even Haaland were nothing special and were mostly avoided to be used in competitive modes because they were too slow. But since they are now lengthy, these attackers are no longer neglected and get their role in every team. For a player to be lengthy, he must be taller than 174cm (5’9″) and have a strength above 65. Lengthy players are meta because they are very fast and strong when they run into an open space and it is very difficult to push them away.

Controlled players are the default ones that don’t have a special acceleration boost. However, in the FIFA 23 Ultimate Team mode you can convert certain players (that can be converted) into lengthy by giving them a certain chemistry style (Architect is one of the most used).

Virgil Van Dijk (CB, 90)
One of the most important defenders of this era and winner of the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award in the 2018-19 season, Van Dijk is definitely one of the best and most popular center-backs in FIFA 23. I was lucky enough to get him in the Ultimate Team right at the beginning and with how good he is I believe he will stay in the first 11 for a very long time. Besides being huge, he is also very strong in duels and can put any player in his pocket. He has a very good defensive AI and is also very useful in attack. Because he is lengthy, he can easily counterattack when you defend a corner.

Erling Haaland (ST, 88)
Erling Haaland, a boy who has stepped up to a higher level in his career and has shown a lot since he moved to Manchester City. So far, he has appeared 12 times and scored 18 goals in the English Premier League. A very young and talented striker who is used to being a goal machine since he was in Borussia Dortmund, that’s what he does, he scores goals. In addition to doing everything in real life, Haaland is now one of the most popular players in FIFA 23 due to his lengthy acceleration. It’s hard to find a player in Ultimate Team who doesn’t have Haaland even on the bench, the man plays for every club! I repeat, EA did the right thing when they brought players of this type back to life, and most of them deserve it!

Kalidou Koulibaly (CB, 87)
Another player who for the first time in his life decided to play in the Premier League, more precisely in Chelsea. There is not much to say about Koulibaly, everything is already known, the man is a beast! Koulibaly has always been a solid defender in every FIFA, and the new acceleration is just an added plus that turns this man into an absolute monster. This is the type of centre-back you would like to have in your team, tall, strong, with good defensive stats but most importantly, speed! In addition, he has a 4 star weak foot, a unique body type and also a medium/high work rate.

Antonio Rüdiger (CB, 87)
Antonio Rüdiger, a brave defender from Germany that now plays for a Real Madrid. The first thing I think of when I hear this man’s name is the incredible shots he can make from long range. But in addition, he is also one of the best defensive players at the moment and he currently shows it in FIFA 23. I play against this defender very often in Ultimate Team, and every time he makes my attacks so much difficult. The reason for this is his incredible positioning, and with additional manual control he can comfortably cover every player and cut every pass. If you play Ultimate Team mode and trying to build the Spanish League team, his card is a must have!

Casemiro (CDM, 89)
We all know who Casemiro is, one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, a man who won everything there was to win with Real Madrid. The Brazilian, who is now a Manchester United player, is getting more attention in FIFA 23 with his new lengthy acceleration. The interesting thing about this card is that it doesn’t have a huge speed, but it’s not noticeable in-game at all. And with huge defensive and physical stats, Casemiro is able to take care of the middle side of the field.

Kyle Walker (RB, 85)
Some will argue that Kyle Walker is the best fullback in the world right now, but one thing is for sure, he is definitely one of the best fullbacks in FIFA 23. There is one thing you must have if you are building a Premier League team, and that is Kyle Walker. It is a very good thing to have a lengthy player as a fullback. He is able to break through very easily and efficiently on the right side of the field by passing any defender in the way. And an even better thing is that Walker is abnormally fast and strong, so he can easily find himself near the opponent’s right corner flag.

Franck Kessié (CDM, 84)
The young defensive midfielder was Barcelona’s first signing of the summer. The guy who comes from the Ivory Coast recorded excellent games in Milan and now he also records them in a FIFA 23. One of the most popular cards is Kessie’s and it’s no wonder why. Kessie plays as a CDM and has those meta all around stats, from speed, defense, physicality, shooting, passing and even dribbling. This guy can do everything, he’s a great box-to-box midfielder and he’s also very cheap in Ultimate Team.

Raphaël Varane (CB, 84)
There is much to be said for a man who, like Casemiro, spent a huge part of his career at Real Madrid. Unlike the others, this man has always been good in every FIFA that has come out. Varane has a great speed and acceleration for someone who plays as a centre-back. Of course, he stands out the most for his defense and physicality. The only drawback is that for some reason he has 67 stamina, but this is not noticed until the late minutes of the game. Also one of the cheaper meta players, and has his own unique body type.

Presnel Kimpembe (CB, 83)
Presnel Kimpembe is abnormally good this year, as well as last year! You can ask any active FIFA 23 player and everyone will tell you that this guy is no joke. He has incredible strength and now with the new lengthy acceleration he is able to outpace even Mbappe. Definitely one of the best & cheap gold cards in FIFA 23.

Harry Kane (ST, 89)
Harry Kane, the third best goalscorer in Premier League history and a man who has played for Tottenham Hotspurs since the beginning of his football career. Finally, with a new lengthy feature, Kane is not negligible anymore in the competitive side of FIFA 23. Considering that shooting inside the penalty area has become much better, Harry Kane’s shooting is at 91 and he cannot miss a goal. The only disadvantage of his card is that it has low acceleration and sprint speed, so he is less agile when it comes to dribbling.

Dušan Vlahović (ST, 84)
Dušan Vlahović, Serbia’s shining diamond who plays for Juventus. Maybe not as popular in Ultimate Team considering all the special cards coming out, but definitely one of the better gold attackers in the game. Vlahović has excellent speed and decent dribbling, and most importantly, very good shooting. His gold and inform cards in the Ultimate Team are solid, just wait until he gets a special card that will almost certainly be a meta.
