10 Most Useful Enchantments in Minecraft

Enchantments are unique powers that every Minecraft player can have on their armor, weapon or tool. Some enchantments allow you to stay longer underwater, while others let you put enemies on fire. At some point in the game you will have diamond items, or maybe even a Netherite, but you don’t carry those items because you don’t want to lose them. That is why it is important to have good enchantments that will additionally strengthen the armor and weapons. In this article, we are focusing on the 10 of the best Minecraft enchantments that you can get.

Mending

Mending is definitely number 1 on this list and for a good reason. You know that feeling when you have the best pickaxe in the game, and you don’t want it to ever break. Well, mending is here for you to make it possible. This enchantment allows infinite lifetime for any item with durability, by repairing it every time you pick up experience. This enchantment made the game incredibly easy for everyone. The only downside with mending is that it’s not compatible with the Infinity enchantment (which is for Bow), and it’s not useful if you really want to farm XP. Mending is a treasure item, which means that it cannot be obtained by ordinary enchantment via the Enchantment table, but is obtained through various treasure chests or librarian villager trades.

Silk Touch

Silk Touch is one of the older Minecraft enchantments. It allows certain item-yielding blocks to be mined as a whole block. For example, if you break a bookshelf, you would only get 3 books and not the entire bookshelf. With Silk Touch on the axe, you can get the whole bookshelf as it is. Or another example, when you mine Stone with Silk Touch, you get a Stone and not Cobblestone. A very useful Minecraft enchantment that allows you to get some blocks more easily.

Looting

Looting is a sword enchantment that causes mobs to drop more items and increases the likelihood of rare drops. The extra drops have no effect on experience. This enchantment will save you a lot of time when farming some mobs. One of the interesting things about looting enchantment is that it also works when you kill with a weapon that does not have looting. You can simply hold a sword that has looting in your right hand, while, for example, you hold a bow or trident in your left hand and kill mobs with them. Maximum enchantment LVL for Looting is 3.

Fortune

Fortune enchantment is similar to Looting except that it is for a digging tools. One of the best enchantments you can have on your pickaxe. Each specific block that is mined drops more items than usual. For example, with a pickaxe that has Fortune III on it, you can get as many as 4 Diamonds from one block of Diamond. In addition to ores, with this enchantment you can get more watermelons, nether warts, glowstone dust, flint and others. The highest enchantment LVL is 3 and is not compatible with the Silk Touch enchantment.

Efficiency

Efficiency is also one of the vital enchantments you should have in Minecraft. It has a simple role, which is to speed up the mining of blocks on any tool. If you don’t have this enchantment on every tool, I don’t know what you’re doing. If you use Axe in PvP combat, with the efficiency enchantment you have an increased chance to stun your opponent’s Shield. Efficiency has as many as 5 enchantments LVL.

Sharpness

Compared to Bane of Arthropods and Smite enchantments that only deal more damage to certain mobs, Sharpness is definitely the best enchantment among them. Sharpness increases damage on swords and axes and affects whatever you hit. Sharpness deals best damage with Netherite Axe. There are also 5 enchantment LVL’s for Sharpness, and level 5 can only be obtained by combining two Sharpness 4 books in Anvil. Only golden weapons can get Sharpness 5 with enchanting table.

Feather Falling

We all know that feeling when we carelessly dig out a block under us and it costs us the entire inventory. Feather Falling reduces fall damage, as well as damage from ender pearls and damage from hitting the ground with elytra. With the appearance of new and larger caves in Minecraft, Feather Falling will definitely save you in many situations. Feather Falling enchantment is only for boots and with the highest enchantment LVL (which is 4) reduces falling damage by up to 48%. Combined with Full Protection 4 armor, you can survive a 103 block drop!

Protection

Protection is one of those most reliable enchantments because it resists any type of damage in Minecraft. It doesn’t just resist the damage from warden’s sonic boom, void, or hunger damage. But that’s why it can also prevent damage from poisonous potions, which mostly ignore the effect of armor. It may not give you the same resistance to fire that Fire Protection would give you, but it does give a little bit of each type of damage. The maximum enchantment level for Protection is 4 in survival mode, Protection 5 can be taken in creative.

Protection for every type of damage.

Infinity

Infinity is perhaps one of the most underrated enchantments in Minecraft. This enchantment gives you infinite arrows for your bow, as long as you have at least one arrow in your inventory. You don’t have to worry about running out of arrows at some point or wasting your inventory space for a couple of arrow stacks. The Bow is certainly one of the most useful and best ranged weapons. Infinity does not work with tipped and spectral arrows, and is not compatible with mending enchantment.

Respiration

Respiration enchantment is only for helmets and it gives you a huge amount of time to breathe underwater. This enchantment has gained even more importance since the oceanic underwater monument was added in Minecraft, and also because of the caves that can be found filled with water. Respiration has 3 enchantment levels and each of them increases the time under water by 15 seconds. Which means that it extend breathing underwater for up to a minute, and with a turtle helmet for an additional 10 seconds.

Best Way to Get Minecraft Enchantments

There are many ways to get a particular Minecraft enchantment. One of the most basic way is to get it with an enchantment table. However, some very important enchantments like Mending cannot be obtained by enchantment table. In Minecraft, there are treasure enchantments that can be obtained: by fishing, killing mobs that have an enchantment in hand, most often by finding treasure chests in monuments or in exchanges with piglins. I would like to single out the two best ways to get all enchantments:

Villager Trading

  1. Librarian Villager trading is definitely the best and cheapest way to get any enchantment in my opinion. All you need are emeralds and a book or two. Of course, if you found an ordinary village and a librarian in it, it would probably either not have the enchantment you want and it would be too expensive. What you can do is to craft a Lectern and place it in the house of an ordinary villager who will become a Librarian. If you don’t like the enchantment which villager sells, just destroy the lectern, wait for villager to go back to normal, and put the lectern back in place, it will change things on offer.

Enderman XP Farm

  1. Make an Enderman XP farm and next to it an Enchanting table and lots of anvils. With this you will be able to endlessly enchant the desired equipment and books that you can combine later. Enderman XP farm is the first thing everyone must do after killing an Ender Dragon. This is the fastest XP farm in Minecraft, you can literally go from 1 to 30 levels in a minute, and in addition to XP, you also get a lifetime amount of ender pearls.

Minecraft enchantments are very important to progress in the game. In addition to making many jobs a lot easier, some of them have an additional side effect that even I, who have been playing Minecraft for 10 years, did not know about. That’s why it’s important to read something about each enchantment, you might be surprised. I hope this list has helped you choose which enchantment you need most right now, as well as taught you the methods of obtaining them. What is your favorite enchantment in Minecraft?
