Titanfall 3 shelved in favour of Apex Legends

It looks like Respawn Entertainment has released Apex Legends. A free to play, battle royale game set in the Titanfall universe! Time will tell if this is the future of the series or a small break from the main instalments.

Titanfall 3 shelved in favour of Apex Legends
Very recently Respawn Entertainment released free to play, battle royale game, Apex Legends. A game that takes place within the Titanfall universe, yet, has none of the iconic titans from the series. Now focusing entirely on the on-foot gameplay at the core of the series. Interestingly it seems that they have also taken out wall running, a major component of traversing the game world in the previous games. It also does contain lootboxes, as per the mantra of free to play games. So far the opinions of the game on social media are positive, with several Twitter posts praising it. The game is free to play and out right now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC through EA Origin.

After speaking with Polygon, Drew Mccoy stated that "We wanted to zoom out [from the core Titanfall series] and find another part of the world". After the surprise success of Player Unkown's: Battlegrounds there were (and are) a lot of companies fighting to make their own battle royale styled game/game modes. One of the most famous being Fortnite and even including games like Grand Theft Auto 5 which included its own take on the mode. So it is not surprising that they went down this road with the series but I do have to admit that a small part of me is disappointed. Mainly considering that Titanfall 2 seemed like a great jumping off point for more narrative focus in the series. We will have to wait and see if this game has replaced or merely postponed Titanfall 3.
