5. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

Reader Feedback Choice – Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

The duel for the #4 spot on the list was a tight one, but with 161 votes, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order fell just one vote short of its competitor, putting it at #5. It should feel proud, however, as the drought for a quality Star Wars-licensed video game has been eradicated through Jedi Fallen Order‘s recent success.

With a score of 80 on Metacritic and its commendable sales numbers, the game has become a beacon of the future for successful Star Wars titles. The expectations attached to it from its first trailers gave viewers a keen sense of change. Less bombastic and more Dark Souls-esque, it provides fulfilling combat coupled with an immersive storyline.

4. Devil May Cry 5

Reader Feedback Choice: Devil May Cry 5

With 162 votes, Devil May Cry 5 landed at the #4 spot. The first game in the franchise in over a decade, the fifth iteration brought a lot of the devilish whimsy that fans of the series were stoked to get back to.

Devil May Cry‘s image has taken some pummeling in the past, particularly with Devil May Cry 2, which is infamous for being broken and laughably edgy. Despite this, the series had kept itself afloat throughout the ’00-09 decade with two other sequels, though its direction seemed to be waning. With the arrival of Devil May Cry 5 and its successful venture back into the fray, fans of the series may end up getting more than one game per decade.

3. Borderlands 3

Reader Feedback Choice: Borderlands 3

We missed the chance to put Devil May Cry 5 at #5, so the viewers were kind enough to put Borderlands 3 at #3. It seems fitting to put numbers parallel to the self, no?

212 votes easily puts Borderlands 3 up this high on the reader’s top games of 2019 list. A return to form for the franchise, it adds onto what the series is most known for and polishes it to absurd levels. Oodles of weapons, tons of quests, and looting to the heart’s content, the game was celebrated the moment it was announced for a reason.

2. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Reader’s Choice Candidate – Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

The power of From Software has catapulted their games to heights unheard of. Since the days of Dark Souls‘s release, the gaming industry has taken notice of its marketability and immersive qualities, crafting the “Souls-esque” subgenre. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the latest from the studio that has once again taken the community by storm, and that sentiment is shared by our readers.

Accumulating 222 votes, that’s good for #2 of the top games of 2019. It didn’t win Game of the Year at the 2019 Game Awards for nothing—Sekiro is a quality title worth playing for any hardcore player.

1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Reader’s Choice Candidate – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be. Call of Duty is among the most played and recognizable video game franchises in the world. It’s never a shock to see it regarded as among the most popular games in any year.

With 239 votes, it only had 17 more votes than Sekiro and 27 more than Borderlands 3. It won, but not by an overwhelming margin, showing that the throne is not as overwhelming as it seems. Nevertheless, Modern Warfare seems to be a successful reboot that has continued to set the franchise apart, reportedly setting PC and PS4 sales records in its first three days on the market. With success like that, Call of Duty fans may never have to worry about the series going under.
