Nintendo's official Japanese website has revealed that the Switch's highly anticipated upcoming fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, will be recieving amiibo support for unreleased characters in the figure series, the likes of which include Ice Climbers, Snake, Pichu, Pokemon Trainer, Wolf, Young Link, and much more.
Newcomers Ridley and Inkling Girl/Boy were the only two characters confirmed to getting amiibo support during Nintendo's virtual E3 showcase. Today's news indicates that all fighters in the franchise's history will be getting their own toy-to-life model eventually, which is an exciting prospect for diehard collectors out there.
Ice Climbers and Pichu were specifically named as examples. It's unknown if Pokemon Trainer will be treated as a package that includes Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard, or if each will be made available seperately. In this case, only time will tell.
Traditionally, amiibo figures were used in the Wii U and 3DS iterations of the franchise as a means of summoning a figure player that can be fought against or alongside with. Repeated use of the figure will allow it to level up and become more formiddable in battle.
