Guilty Gear Strive Season 2 Overview

Guilty Gear Strive is just entering season 2. With a new season comes new patches, new characters, and new features. Here is everything we know about it so far!

Guilty Gear Strive: Everything you need to know about Season 2

Guilty Gear Strive has been one of the most successful fighting games in recent years, and Season 2 is right around the corner. Here is everything you need to know regarding Guilty Gear Strive Season 2.

Balance Patch

A major balance patch was released on June 10th. This patch includes significant changes for all 20 characters in the game. Many characters have been buffed, nerfed, and given new tools. Apart from character specific changes, there are also system changes that affect every character, these include:

  • A new macro for Faultless Defense.
    • While Faultless Defense used to require multiple buttons to execute, this change will allow the player to bind it to one button.
  • Higher reward off counter hits on weaker moves.
    • Moves like punch and crouching kick will allow the player to start more combos off counter hits.

  • Fast Roman Cancels requiring less tension.
    • When performing a Roman Cancel the tension will deplete gradually instead of instantly. This means cancelling a Roman Cancel with a normal or special move before the end of the animation will reduce the overall cost of the Roman Cancel.

New Characters

Season 2 will bring with it 4 new characters. No characters have been revealed yet and we are unsure on when the first character will be announced. Since the season pass for season 2 contains 1 less character and no additional story, we can probably expect the price to be less than the $30 pass for season 1.

Who to expect in Guilty Gear Strive Season 2?

While we don’t have any hard confirmations yet, there are a few characters that are likely to appear in season 2. Many of the DLC characters in season 1 were heavily featured in the story mode. We also just received a new story featuring many potential characters.

Sin Kiske

Sin Kiske is the son of Ky Kiske and was playable in the last Guilty Gear game. He fights with a flag, and is known for having good range, and the ability to special cancel. His special cancels were incredibly strong, but balanced out by a resource meter called hunger. If Sin did not have enough hunger he would not be able to special cancel, meaning he’d have to waste time eating on the battlefield to replenish it.

Delilah

Delilah is the sister of Bedman. While Bedman was playable in Guilty Gear Xrd, Strive would be Delilah’s first playable appearance in the Guilty Gear Series. If she were to play anything like her brother, she would be very unique.

Fan Favorites

While not seen in the story mode, these characters are fan favorites from the Guilty Gear series that are sure to turn up eventually.

  • Johnny
    • Leader of the jellyfish pirates and infamously flashy.
  • Slayer
    • A vampire gentleman who is known for his bait and punish playstyle.

Cross Play

Cross Play is confirmed for Guilty Gear Strive’s second season. There will be a cross play beta during summer 2022 and this feature will most likely be added to the main game later this year. This addition will make Guilty Gear Strive the first traditional fighting game to have both rollback netcode and cross play.
