Scream 6
Releases 10th March 2023 in theaters.
Scream is one of the most famous slasher franchises out there, renowned for its satire of the formula. The upcoming release of Scream 6 is no doubt one of the biggest horror movies releasing this year, let alone this March. Courtney Cox and Jenna Ortega reprise their roles from 2022s Scream, giving the movie some serious star power. Neve Campbell will for the first time not be returning as Sidney Prescott however.
Scream 6 continues the story, with the survivors of the previous movie leaving the town of Woodsboro to move to New York. However the Ghostface killings begin to happen again with a new killer going on a murder spree.
Scream is a fan favourite amongst horror movie watchers, and the new addition to the series will likely bring in a sizable audience. Whether it’s your first Scream movie, or you are already a fan, these slashers are great for those who love horror, and all the tropes and conventions that come with it.
Infinity Pool
Releases 24th March 2023 in theaters.
Writer-Director Brandon Cronenberg has an upcoming Sci-Fi horror releasing this month. The son of the famous body horror film creator David Cronenberg has shown to have great chops for horror movies. His previous films, Possessor and Antiviral, were both fantastic. His latest movie, Infinity Pool, stars Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth and Cleopatra Coleman and has already garnered praise from critics, with a 87% score on rotten tomatoes.
Infinity Pool follows James Foster, a writer, who has taken a vacation with his wife. However, after an accident they begin to find out about the country’s disturbing culture and sense of justice. Given the twisted nature of Cronenberg’s films it’s best to leave it their to avoid any spoilers.
With a talented up and coming director and a unique approach to horror, Infinity Pool is definitely one of the biggest horror movies releasing this March.
Unseen
Releases 7th March 2023 on VOD.
Horror/Thriller Unseen is a directorial debut for Yoko Okumara. The movie joins the long list of Blumhouse movies. The film features Midori Francis, Jolene Purdy and Missi Pyle in a horror with an interesting and fresh premise. Unseen tells the story of Emily, a blind woman being stalked through the woods by a murderous ex. She calls Sam, a petrol station worker, who must act as Emily’s eyes via video call as she tries to survive.
Unseen takes its spot as one of the biggest horrors releasing this month with its unique premise. Of course, with the basis revolving around sight, it could make or break the movie. However there have been some fascinating horrors that play with the characters senses such as Don’t Breathe and Hush. Fingers crossed this movie is as good as it looks.
Children of the Corn
Releases 3rd March 2023 in theaters and 21st March 2023 on Shudder.
Based upon short story by Stephen King, Children of the Corn spawned a series that has been hit and miss. However with King’s stories receiving renewed prominence with recent films Firestarter we can hope for a great new addition to pantheon of movies based on his work. Phone Writer-Director Kurt Wimmer (Known for films such as Equilibrium and Law Abiding Citizen) returns to the franchise with a new instalment.
Children of the Corn brings us to Nebraska’s cornfields. A young girl is possessed by a spirit in the fields and begins a rampage whilst recruiting children to the cult. However not all the towns’ students are willing to join. The film has strong material to base itself on and is apparently going to take its own direction with the story.
Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey
Releases 10th March 2023 in theaters.
Of course we couldn’t have this list without the movie that has gone viral on social media. Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey is finally releasing this month. The film has gotten a lot of attention for its use of popular childhood characters in a horror setting. The film is written and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and looks to be a silly b-movie horror. Whether you like those kind of movies, or just want to see everyone’s favourite bear go on a massacre, then you will get some enjoyment of this.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is set around the characters from A. A. Milnes classic story going feral after being abandoned by Christopher Robin. Without Robin to feed them, the animals of Hundred Acre Woods have returned to their animal ways and have begun feeding on local students who enter their territory. It may be a ridiculous premise, but looks to be a fun and over-the-top movie. With so much viral popularity it has to make the list of the biggest horror movies releasing this March.
