Usually, DC Comics would announce their upcoming projects during San Diego Comic-Con. Last year, SDCC canceled the convention because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but that didn’t stop DC. Instead, they hold their virtual online convention called DC FanDome to announce what they have planned. The reception was so positive that they did it again this year. We were treated to new announcements and striking looks with their movies, shows, comics, and video games. In honor of the event, we’re looking at the five best things showcased at DC FanDome.
5: Peacemaker
Fans were puzzled when Warner Bros. announced that the character Peacemaker would be getting his own spin-off series at HBOMAX. Out of all the characters from the DC Universe, what makes this guy so compelling? The Suicide Squad showed that Peacemaker is a great character, and this trailer squashed any doubts. It shows Peacemaker getting recruited into a new team as he explores his origins. The trailer quickly his squad, including a bald eagle that gives him a big hug. This show is a weapon in HBOMAX’s growing arsenal of entertainment.
4: Black Adam
To say Black Adam has been in production for a long time would be an understatement. Since 2014, The Rock has been trying to develop his dream project. We finally got an extended first look with the cast and Dwayne Johnson telling us how excited this movie is. For the first three minutes, this felt like something out of the WWE as everyone got us pumped up before they went into the ring. We don’t get a traditional teaser but a little preview of the opening scene. It’s Black Adam showing off how OP he is as he reduces a guy to dust in a matter of seconds. There is no jokes present, and it looks to be a legendary showing of DC’s most notorious anti-hero.
3: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Any game published by Rocksteady Studios is more than sure to attract some eyeballs. That’s what happened when they revealed a new trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The setup is simple with the Suicide Squad task with taking down Branaic and a brainwashed Justice League. What really makes the game appealing is the chemistry with Task Force X. Especially when they all join in at the end to torture Penguin. Seeing just a little bit of what Rocksteady can do in this current generation of gaming makes next year all the more exciting.
2: The Flash
It’s been a weird journey for the solo Flash movie as multiple directors and writers have left the project. We finally got Andy Muschietti brought in as the director, but more wrinkles started to appear. After a nearly 30-year Absence as Batman, Michael Keaton is back, and everything heavily implies that the multiverse will be involved as the main story. The minute sneak peek that we got more than kept fans happy as anticipation for The Flash is now pretty high.
Michael Keaton narrates how Flash would try to save his world, mainly from all the universes and timelines. We get a couple of shots of what seems like the movie adapting the famous comic story, Flashpoint, with Barry visiting his childhood home. Then the grand picture of just seeing the back of Batman’s head with the Batcave in front of him. The iconic ears stick out and bring on instant nostalgia. It seems The Flash has a bright road ahead to run towards the 2022 movie season.
1: The Batman
Warner Bros. knew this would be special as the new trailer for The Batman was the last thing shown at the event. And man, what a way to go out because that trailer is honestly epic on so many levels. We were shown so much, yet not having the movie spoiled for the audience. It looks like Matt Reeves is giving us a Bruce Wayne that’s filled with rage as he takes on The Riddler that’s more like the Zodiac Killer.
The cinematography looks astonishing, with Gotham City being straight out of the comics. It ends with a slo-mo shot of Batman walking in the pouring rain with fire behind him. Combine with Michael Giacchino’s epic theme for The Batman, and you can just feel the chills come up with anticipation. This wasn’t just a little sneak peek; fans got one of the best trailers of the year so far. While fans will think about other showcases, The Batman trailer will be one that people will watch over and over.
