Top 5 Games For PS4 Newcomers

Although many of us have chosen our side when it comes to the console debate, there are still many gamers who are new to the PS4, due to either switching allegiances away from the Xbox or being completely new to gaming. With that, we have complied a brief list of the five best PS4 exclusive games for newcomers to the console.

Top 5 Games For PS4 Newcomers

5) Until Dawn

Supermassive Games highly popular title is effectively a game in which you star in your own horror movie, where you make decisions that could end in the life or death of other characters. The game is set in Western Canada where a group of eight teenagers travel to the fictional Blackwood Mountain – one year after the mysterious disappearance of two girls.

Until Dawn boasts an impressive cast, including the star of Amazon's hit TV show, Mr Robot, Rami Malek and Prison Break's Peter Stormare. In addition, the game has won a BAFTA Games Award for Original Property, highlighting the high quality of the title. You will get to alternate between the different characters, where you must make important decisions that effect your ending of the game. If you would like to find out more details regarding the title, you can find them on the developers official website. Moreover, if you are interested in purchasing the game you can do so from Amazon in both the US and UK.

4) Shadow of the Colossus

The PS4 version of the game is a stupendous remake of the fan-favourite PS2 title that was developed by JAPAN Studio and Bluepoint Games. You will be given the chance to engage in an 'unforgettable world' of towering creatures of beautiful designs. Furthermore, the game includes improved graphics and performance to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

Shadow of the Colossus has received impressive reviews with a 9/10 from Dualshockers and a 9.7 from IGN. Further details can be found on the PlayStation wesbite and once again the game can be brought from Amazon in both America and the UK.

3) Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls

I'll admit, this one may be a little bit controversial. Firstly, it is two games instead of one; second of all, I've picked it over Quantic Dream's most recent title – Detroit: Become Human. However, I've chosen this bundle due to value for money and the fact that these two titles should be an experience that every PS4 owner should come to have. Although both games have some flaws (mainly plot hole issues), both games have come to be massively popular amongst the PlayStation community.

Top 5 Games For PS4 Newcomers - Heavy Rain
Initially released on the PS3 in 2010, David Cage's Heavy Rain is an interactive drama that is based upon the killings of the Origami Killer, who uses extended periods of rain to drown their victims. The game allows you to play as four different characters, where your choices will result in alternative scenes and endings. As previously mentioned, Heavy Rain does have some plot holes that you will likely find, but it is clear that the attention to detail by David Cage and Quantic Dream outweigh these minor snags. With that, Cage himself wrote a 2,000 page script for the title and even travelled to Philadelphia to research the setting that would be put into Heavy Rain. Further details as well as purchase information (for US and UK) can be found on the PlayStation webpage.

BEYOND: Two Souls - Launch Trailer | PS4

Like Heavy Rain, David Cage played a major role in Beyond: Two Souls. If a cast including Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe isn't enough for you to start playing, BTS is a interactive drama action-adventure that focuses on the story of Jodie Holmes and her incorporeal entity named Aiden. Willem Dafoe plays the role of Nathan Dawkins a researcher in the Department of Paranormal Activity who adopts the role of Jodie's father. The game was recognised at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2013 thereby making it the second video game to be recognised at a film festival at the time. Further details can be obtained from the PlayStation wesbite.

2) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Still one of my favourite games on the PS4, Naughty Dog's hit title Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is the last instalment of Nathan Drake's story that began in 2007. The story sees Drake come out of retirement in the search for the lost treasure of Captain Henry Avery. Additionally, the game witnesses Drake reunite with his brother Sam and the return of past characters such as Elena and Sully. Contrary to the previous Uncharted games, the fourth instalment boasts greater freedoms for players including the use of multiple routes, stealth and vehicles.

Uncharted 4 saw a multitude of script changes and delays that thankfully resulted in an breathtaking product. As with other games on this list, further details can be found on the official PlayStation website. In addition, you can see where Uncharted 4 is ranked alongside the other Uncharted titles or see the top six scores from the franchise.

1) God of War

Developed by Santa Monica Studio, God of War is the eighth instalment into the franchise. With this, the game is loosely based on Norse mythology and focuses on the story of Kratos and his son Atreus. Following the death of Kratos's second wife and Atreus' mother, they set out on a journey to fulfil her wish by spreading her ashes from the highest peak in the nine realms.

During their journey, Kratos and Atreus encounter different monsters and gods of the Norse world. God of War has received universal praise for it's fantastic narrative, world design and graphics. If you're interested in getting more details you can find them on the game's official wesbite. In addition, the game can be purchased on Amazon in the UK or US.

Honourable Mention) The Last of Us Remastered

To be honest it would be a sin to leave this one out even if it is only an 'honourable mention'. With the release of the The Last of Us Part II approaching, it is well worth your time to play (or, even replay) The Last of Us Remastered. For those who are unaware, the game centers on the story of Joel, who is tasked with escorting a teenage girl named Ellie across a post-apocalyptic America. The game allows you to use weapons to fight against humans and deadly creatures infected by a mutated form of the Cordyceps fungus. Details can be found on the Naughty Dog site
