Happy holidays, everyone! Just in time for last-minute shoppers, Steam has revealed their Winter sale, spanning until January 5th. To browse while you read, you can keep a tab open with Steam’s Specials page.
Hades
$24.99 → $19.99 (20% Off)
The 2020 Game of the Year nominee is this year’s universal indie darling. Released just three months ago, you can pick up what many consider a Game of the Year snub for less than most AAA games. Considering the studio’s past works, including the award-winning Bastion, it’s safe to say the studio knows how to make quality games.
“As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
$39.99 → $23.99 (40% Off)
If you’re a hardcore fan of Microsoft’s proverbial mascot, chances are you’ve already purchased this collection. Had you been on the fence, now is the time to hop on.
6 Halo titles, optimized for modern consoles/PCs and updated with a large collection of accessories, can be bought for an average of $4 per game. If that doesn’t sound appetizing for FPS fans, I’m not sure what else to tell you.
“The series that changed console gaming forever comes to PC with six blockbuster games in one epic experience.
Start your spartan career today with Season 4 featuring brand-new, free content available to unlock across the Master Chief Collection, including all-new weapon and vehicle skins for Halo 3 as well as the Champions Bundle weapon skins in Halo 4.“
You can purchase the collection through its Steam page.
Star Wars: Squadrons
$39.99 → $23.99 (40% Off)
What can we infer when a game published through EA is on sale for 40% off its retail value less than three months after its release? Whatever one may think, it’s great regardless! Many years since the days of Rogue Squadron, EA and developer MOTIVE have brought the modern-day equivalent to the hands (and VR sets!) of players everywhere.
“Master the art of starfighter combat in the authentic piloting experience Star Wars: Squadrons. Feel the adrenaline of first-person multiplayer space dogfights alongside your squadron, and buckle up in a thrilling Star Wars story.“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
Doom Eternal
$59.99 → $19.79 (67% Off)
Another Game of the Year candidate released this calendar year, only this one has a massive drop in price—like hell. DOOM Eternal continues the franchise’s revival started by 2016’s DOOM by expanding on its story and gameplay mechanics. For all those wanting to blast the flesh off of demonic creatures, you can purchase this for less than Hades. I suppose it’s a moral victory after the indie darling beat it for Best Action Game.
“Hell’s armies have invaded Earth. Become the Slayer in an epic single-player campaign to conquer demons across dimensions and stop the final destruction of humanity. The only thing they fear… is you.“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
Control Ultimate Edition
$39.99 → $19.99 (50% Off)
A Game of the Year candidate in 2019 as well as a nominee for a large number of other categories, Ultimate Edition comes packed with two separate DLCs all in one contained package—one far below the AAA moniker it holds. It’s the perfect time to finally see what all the talk was about last year.
If you need any more convincing, feel free to see our Control Ultimate Edition review!
“A corruptive presence has invaded the Federal Bureau of Control… Only you have the power to stop it. The world is now your weapon in an epic fight to annihilate an ominous enemy through deep and unpredictable environments. Containment has failed, humanity is at stake. Will you regain control?“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
Crusader Kings III
$49.99 → $39.99 (20% Off)
While still a bit on the pricey side, the appeal to this is quality combined with recognition of said quality. A nominee in the 2020 Game Awards’ Best Sim/Strategy Game category, Crusader Kings III has met the expectations produced from the quality of the previous installment. For $40, that’s solid for a game that released just three months ago.
If you need any more convincing, feel free to see our Crusader Kings III review!
“Paradox Development Studio brings you the sequel to one of the most popular strategy games ever made. Crusader Kings III is the heir to a long legacy of historical grand strategy experiences and arrives with a host of new ways to ensure the success of your royal house.“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
$29.99 → $14.99 (50% Off)
The follow-up to the critically acclaimed Ori and the Blind Forest, Will of the Wisps continues the story of Ori that manages to continue to raise expectations. For $15, it’s the cheapest option on this list for a near-guaranteed great time, especially for those that like metroidvania titles with vivid, emotional stories.
“The little spirit Ori is no stranger to peril, but when a fateful flight puts the owlet Ku in harm’s way, it will take more than bravery to bring a family back together, heal a broken land, and discover Ori’s true destiny.“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
$59.99 → $44.99 (25% Off)
Another pretty pricey title, but context is everything here—25% off retail price for a game that released just over a month ago. The latest in the cult-favorite Yakuza series continues the over-the-top absurdity the franchise is known for, now with turn-based combat the likes of games of old. A wonderful time as any if you’ve been patiently waiting to get it.
If you need any more convincing, feel free to see our Yakuza: Like a Dragon review!
“Ichiban Kasuga, a low-ranking grunt of a low-ranking yakuza family in Tokyo, faces an 18-year prison sentence after taking the fall for a crime he didn’t commit. Never losing faith, he loyally serves his time and returns to society to discover that no one was waiting for him on the outside, and his clan has been destroyed by the man he respected most.“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
Resident Evil 3
$59.99 → $19.79 (67% Off)
The continued efforts by Capcom to remaster their classic Resident Evil franchise saw 2020’s Resident Evil 3, which despite not reaching the level of acclaim as Resident Evil 2, still proved a mighty success. And now it’s on par with DOOM Eternal for the biggest price drop for a major 2020 release. Why not help Jill Valentine escape from the clutches of Nemesis before the year ends?
“Jill Valentine is one of the last remaining people in Raccoon City to witness the atrocities Umbrella performed. To stop her, Umbrella unleashes their ultimate secret weapon: Nemesis!“
You can purchase this game through its Steam page.
Desperados III
$49.99 → $24.99 (50% Off)
This game flew a tad under the radar this year, but recognition was given in the form of the Game Awards nominating it for Best Sim/Strategy Game. A tactical world of atmosphere and Wild West theatrics, fans of gunfights and thematic whistling will find a new home away from home with this 2020 hit.
If you need any more convincing, feel free to see our Desperados III review!
“In this long-awaited prequel to the beloved classic Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, John Cooper will join forces with the runaway bride Kate, the shady hitman Doc McCoy, the giant trapper Hector, and Isabelle, a mysterious lady from New Orleans. On Cooper’s quest for redemption, his adventures lead him and his gang from rural towns, over swamps and riverbanks, and finally to a dramatic showdown worthy of Wild West legends.“
You can purchase the game through its Steam page.
