There are a lot of reasons why Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Multiplayer would be great. It still holds up 10 years later, but the original game has unfortunately been plagued by hackers. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer is one of the best in the franchise and has been one of the most requested to be remastered. While this did finally happen with the campaign mode, the multiplayer is still yet to be released.
Activision explained their reasoning for not including the multiplayer experience in a blog post. They, along with Infinity Ward, have decided to focus on classic map experiences in the 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare.
It was a huge disappointment to many fans that the campaign would be the only mode to be remastered. However, it wouldn’t be the first time that Activision has made a stance on a big decision for Modern Warfare and changed their minds later on. In 2016, Modern Warfare Remastered was released as a package with Infinite Warfare and could only be bought that way. A year later, the game was finally available to be purchased standalone. Here are 5 reasons why Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Multiplayer would be great.
1. Multiplayer Had High Replay Value
There’s no denying that Call of Duty isn’t still addicting to this day. However, there was just something about the classic boots on the ground games that made for much better fun with friends. The ranking system in Modern Warfare 2 was great and while the final months of the game saw a lot of hacking to get to the max rank, there were a ton of players that did it by just grinding. Hitting 10th prestige in multiplayer was a huge accomplishment and even after you did that, the game still had so much replay value. From competitive to just overall fun matches of search and destroy, domination, and other game modes, it would be awesome to relive these moments.
2. Great Maps
Modern Warfare 2 is known for some of the most iconic maps in the franchise. Terminal, Highrise, Favela, and Rust are some of the greatest maps ever made and it would be so much fun to revisit them 10 years later. It’d be interesting to see how these maps would play these days considering the community has evolved and players are a lot more knowledgeable when it comes to classic maps.
3. Amazing Gun Variety
Modern Warfare 2 is also known for its amazing gun variety. Iconic guns like the Intervention and the ACR were so much fun to use. Attachments were extremely simple in the game too. It was much more limited than the newer games with how many attachments you could put on a gun, but it just felt a lot less complicated. Certain setups were perfect for run and gun and others were great for long-range encounters. Gun balance and certain perk combinations were somewhat flawed in the game, but it wasn’t super intolerable.
4. Tactical Nuke
Killstreaks were a huge part of Modern Warfare 2 and the game did a very good job of evolving them from previous games. The Tactical Nuke was a fan favorite killstreak that was fairly challenging but extremely rewarding to get. Players had to get 25 kills to get the Tactical Nuke that would automatically end the game on a victory when used. There were many strategies at getting the nuke. A lot of players challenged themselves by using different guns and methods for achieving the deadly killstreak. The Tactical Nuke would make Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Multiplayer a ton of fun to grind.
5. Modern Warfare Remastered Engine
The remastered campaign seems to be using the same game engine used for Modern Warfare Remastered back in 2016. The menu and graphics are almost completely identical. This isn’t really a bad thing considering that the game still seems faithful to how it was back in 2009. It runs smoothly and looks quite beautiful. If the multiplayer is remastered, it could allow for some needed updates to balance out the game. There were a lot of bugs and glitches that were still present back then that could get fixed now.
