The reveal of a brand new Call of Duty game is on the horizon. With Treyarch at the helm this year, there are a ton of possibilities as to where the game could be heading. It’s going to be very exciting to see brand new innovative features and the possible return of classic features from the older games. The Black Ops games were some of the most fun in the franchise and are much loved by fans. A return to the simplistic boots on the ground that made Call of Duty: Black Ops so special could generate a lot of hype this year. Here are 5 features we want in Call of Duty 2020.
1. Return To Classic Roots
Call of Duty: Black Ops is one of the greatest games in the past 10 years. It was packed with an amazing campaign mode that impressed a lot of fans and newcomers to the franchise. The new and improved Zombie mode was a huge step up from Call of Duty: World at War and the multiplayer was one of the most fun and addicting to date. A return to the classic feel that the first Black Ops game had could be a huge shift. Certain features such as the dolphin dive and the simple perk system could be really cool to come back to. Black Ops, for the most part, was pretty balanced with most of the guns being viable. If Call of Duty 2020 does return to the basics, it’ll be something we’ll be really excited about.
2. League Play
Something that was, unfortunately, missing in Modern Warfare (2019) was a dedicated ranked mode where players could progress and match against players in their skill bracket. In previous games, League Play allowed amateur and pro players to prove their skills online and added a ton of replay value compared to just grinding public matches. Ranked mode is extremely crucial as the introduction of the Call of Duty League has sparked the interest of a lot of players wanting to pursue a professional career. It overall just gives skilled players an outlet to keep getting better at the game.
3. Battle Royale
While Warzone is currently doing extremely well, it’ll be interesting to see how the next Call of Duty game handles the much-loved battle royale genre. Blackout was successful as an additional mode with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but it doesn’t rival Warzone‘s fresh take on the highly popular genre. Blackout could have most likely had similar success to Warzone had it released separately as a free to play mode. Either way, it’d be great to see Warzone get an expansion that brings some of the guns and map locations featured in the Call of Duty 2020 to build on the already successful and growing game.
4. Wager Matches
The wager matches in Call of Duty: Black Ops offered endless fun with friends. Modes such as Gun Game, One in the Chamber, and Sharpshooter were a ton of fun to play. These can be easily improved and modernized with new rules to make things more interesting. It could also be cool to play these modes with more players as the newer games support bigger player counts. Depending on how the progression system works in the new game, wager matches could be tied in for specific unlockables. It’s something that’s great for casual players that want to play fun matches with friends and also for competitive players to take a break from pub stomping.
5. Campaign Mode
One major thing that was missing from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was the traditional campaign mode featured in other Call of Duty games. It was a huge change that was partly made up for with the addition of Blackout and the continued innovation of the Zombies mode. However, a return to a traditional campaign mode would be great as Treyarch always does well with storytelling and knows how to create an immersive and memorable experience. If the game does take place in the Black Ops universe it could reboot it or perhaps tell a story in between some of the other games. Either way, we’re extremely excited to see where the developers take the story if a campaign mode is to return.
