With news of Hawkeye and Spider-Man (exclusive to Playstation 4 and 5 owners) coming to Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers, I’ve compiled a list of what heroes we want to see announced next for the Avengers Initiative. This list is based on what potential gameplay all the characters have to offer, and how they would fit within the game missions.
5. Ant-Man
The spotlight on Ant-Man has been on Scott Lang, thanks to Paul Rudd’s fantastic performance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but attention should go to the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym. He’ll appear in the game, but not as a playable character. Having the opportunity to play Ant-Man can present a lot of fun opportunities for the player. Square Enix can get really creative when Pym shrinks or even grows bigger and how he would fight enemies during the War Zones areas. We know a little bit from the trailer that Pym is working to take down A.I.M, and that can be explored in his own missions. It’ll be one small step for Pym, but one giant step for the gamer kind if Ant-Man is playable.
4. She-Hulk
Time to bring in some familiar blood with She-Hulk. After receiving an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters becomes a Hulk-like figure with all of her personality intact. She can still have all of her cousin’s strength in battle but has more agility when fighting. On top of that, Jennifer is such an exciting character in the comics and possesses some 4th-wall-breaking dialogue that could be fun as Square Enix can poke fun at itself. If given a chance, She-Hulk can show that she can smash as well as her cousin.
3. Nick Fury
The man behind the scenes should be front and center for the Avengers Initiative. Nick Fury is someone who doesn’t get his due, as he’s regulated to a supporting character. We don’t know his role in the game, but trailers hint at him being the leader of the team. Having him go out on his own missions, instead of being someone giving orders, would make for a nice change of pace. His tactical knowledge would come in handy, and he would probably play similar to Black Widow, seeing as they’re both experienced, skilled agents.
2. Daredevil
Ever since Netflix unjustly canceled Daredevil, fans of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen have been itching to see more. Putting Daredevil in Marvel’s Avengers would be satisfying for fans that still want to see the character. His mix of being a brawler dealing damage with close combat and agility that makes him look like a world-class acrobat is an exciting blend. Daredevil also has a radar sense that helps him see, and that can help him stand out visually from the other Avengers. Fans might consider Daredevil an only street-level hero, but he’s had many encounters with the Avengers before. He has a connection to Black Widow that can help him fit in with this team. You don’t have to be blind to see that Daredevil would be a great choice.
1. Black Panther
The number one spot on this list has to go to the King of Wakanda. T’Challa is easily one of the most popular characters right now for Marvel that fans would go crazy over if announced. His power set plus the Vibranium suit he possesses would make a character that gamers would go crazy for. You can even feel like Shuri as you gain gear and upgrade his suit. With Black Panther going on missions, they can also add Wakanda to the mix. Imagine getting to explore it while taking down enemies. If Square Enix wants to make amends after the Spider-Man controversy, using Black Panther would be more than enough.
