Knock at the Cabin
M Night Shyamalan has returned to our screens with an all star cast. His latest movie Knock at the Cabin stars Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Rupert Grint in a mystery horror. Shyamalan has been known to be hit and miss with his productions, but fingers crossed this time he gets it right.
The movie looks to be an apocalyptic trolley problem. A family on holiday in a log cabin are taken hostage by a group of armed strangers. They claim that only this family can prevent the end of days by committing a horrible sacrifice. There will likely be the classic Shyamalan twist so who knows can be trusted. No doubt this movie is one of the biggest horrors releasing this February, so check it out, especially if you are a mystery fan.
Knock at the Cabin releases theatrically on February 3rd.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey
Director Rhys Waterfield is bringing a wonderfully dark take on the classic children’s cartoon. With Winnie-The-Pooh leaving copywrite it is now possible for other creators to take a crack at it. This time we get the beloved series in horror movies form.
The movie follows the characters Winnie, Pooh, Piglet and Owl who have gone feral after Christopher Robin went to college. They have eaten Eeyore and are now merciless animals seeking to feed. Sometime after Christophers return and disappearance a group of friends head to Hundred Acre Woods only to be terrorised. It all sounds silly, gory and fun. If you want a more light hearted horror then you can’t go wrong with this.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey releases theatrically in the US on 15th February.
Bunker
Upcoming horror Bunker brings the genre to the fronts of World War 1. The film received acclaim at a number of film festivals, such as the Buffalo International Film Festival in late 2022. The movie is releasing wider this month.
The horrors of war take centre stage in this film. It follows a group of soldiers trapped within a bunker during WW1. However an ungodly being begins to turn them against one another as their fear overtakes them. The setting is a largely fresh one, and looks ideal for those who want a darker movie. The trailer looks great, and this movie is looking to be one of the biggest horror movies releasing this February.
Bunker has a limited release in theatres on 24th February.
Consecration
Consecration brings scares to Scotland with this horror movie from Christopher Smith. The creepy visuals, location and costumes has gathered this movie some attention. It’s another psychological horror with a great cast including Danny Huston.
Consecration follows Grace, who heads to an isolated convent in Scotland after her brother, a priest, apparently committed suicide. All is not as it seems though, as she distrusts the church and heads there to unravel what really happened. She finds a disturbing past to the convent, with murder and sacrilege taking place. If you miss horror with a religious twist and can’t wait for the Nun 2, then Consecration should be right up your alley.
Consecration releases in the US on 10th February and March 11th in the UK.
Huesara: The Bone Woman
Our final entry in the biggest horrors releasing this February is Spanish film, Huesara: The Bone Woman. This film received praise for its stellar visuals and writing, as well as the restraint in regards to jumpscares.
Huesara: The Bone Woman tells the story of Valeria. She is pregnant and under threat from occult forces as a entity has cursed her. The movie is a deep look at pregnancy and the fears that come with it. It’s the directorial debut for Michelle Garza Cervera and looks to be the start of a great horror career.
Huesara: The Bone Woman has a limited release in theatres on 10th February, and comes out on Shudder on 16th February.
Honorable Mention: Cocaine Bear
Of course we couldn’t complete this list without an honorable mention to Cocaine Bear. The movie is about a bear that goes on a rampage after ingesting huge amounts of cocaine. Ray Liotta, O’shea Jackson Jr and Kristofer Hivju star is this weird and wonderful movie. It’s a dark comedy, likely with more comedy, but sounds like a rollicking good time.
Cocaine Bear releases on 24th February.
