Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered has been talked about a lot for the past couple of years. While some fans would rather it come to backwards compatibility, others would love a fully remastered version. The game is nearly ten years old and oddly hasn't come to Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature. While Black Ops 1 and Black Ops II have made it to the list, the Modern Warfare trilogy seems to be locked away for some sort of master plan. Could that master plan be a remaster of 2009's Modern Warfare 2? Here's five reasons why I believe it's a possibility!
1. 2019 marks the 10 year anniversary of mw2
The year 2019 marks the 10 year anniversary of Modern Warfare 2. This makes it a lot more likely for us to get it as a celebration of its anniversary. Similar to how we got Modern Warfare Remastered close to its anniversary. It would be neat to get it with some kind of bonus such as the map packs included or a way to play the campaign early as well as the spec ops missions in co-op. Imagine seeing maps such as Favela, Afghan, and Highrise fully remastered and left completely with the same layout. It'd be interesting to see how players react to the map design from back then.
2. Modern warfare remastered got pretty good reception
In 2016, Raven Software gave us a remaster of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. While it had quite a bit of flaws, it was a very fun game that I personally dedicated a lot of time to. The main flaw with it was the developers having very poor communication with the fans. Other than that, the campaign was great in its fully remastered glory, and the multiplayer got a lot of great updates such as prop hunt, new weapons, and camos. If the same treatment came to Modern Warfare 2, I believe it could work out. The game has a very good selection of weapons so I'd honestly hope that stays the same. However having new camos would be awesome and could keep things fresh.
3. The Modern Warfare trilogy has yet to come to backwards compatibility on Xbox One
Something strange with the Modern Warfare titles is that they have yet to be brought to backwards compatibility for Xbox One. Unlike other titles such as Black Ops, Black Ops 2, and so on. It almost seems as if there are plans for a remastered bundle. We’ve already gotten a remaster of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It got fairly good reception with some criticism on the way it was handled throughout its cycle.
4. MW2 would be a safe move for Infinity Ward
Even to this day I believe Modern Warfare 2 still holds up and is a very fun game. It’s not really too outdated besides a couple things that were never balanced out in the game. One of my favorite parts of MW2 was its maps. While it could just be me getting older, Modern Warfare 2 is the only game that I seem to remember most of the maps for. Maps such as Favela, Terminal, and Rust have all been stamped into my memory and I’d love to see them completely remastered for the PS4 and Xbox One.
5. Possible preorder bonus for Infinity Wards next game
Infinity Ward's next title wont be announced till around summer next year. However we can speculate that it will most likely be a boots on the ground game in a modern setting. Something that could be likely is that we will get a brand new modern Call of Duty game with Modern Warfare 2 Remastered as a pre-order incentive. The main downside to this is that the community will be split once again after be unified in Call of Duty: WWII. It would be a lot better to have the community centered around one game.
