George Lucas Made Plans For Star Wars 7-9

Despite the heavy criticisms of the prequels, it has been revealed that George Lucas made plans for further Star Wars films before he sold his company to Disney in 2012. Up until now, it has been kept a secret what Lucas's plans were for the future of the Star Wars franchise but a Twitter user, Livio Ramdondelli, spotted some clues in a companion book for James Cameron’s Story Of Science Fiction.

In the book, Lucas stated that: “were going to get into a microbiotic world. But there’s this world of creatures that operate differently than we do. I call them the Whills. And the Whills are the ones who actually control the universe. They feed off the Force”. With this, Lucas admitted that he could have done the films “if I’d held onto the company”. But, as we know we never got a chance to see Lucas's ideas put into film due to the company being sold to Disney (which was perhaps for the best considering the shocking state of the prequels).

Diehard fans may know that the original scripts contained Whills with the idea of the entire franchise being based on a perspective of the Journal of the Whills. Moreover, eagle-eyed fans may have seen a reference to the Whills in Rouge One with Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus being 'Guardians of the Whills' (a religious order based on the Force and the Jedi).

Even after selling his company, Lucas has been around the creative input of recent Star Wars films (albeit not directly) with Ron Howard confirming that Lucas visited the set of Solo, helping to ensure Howard got all the specific details right.
