Sunset Overdrive - mostly positive reviews.

There are being released many reviews these days for Sunset Overdrive. And one can tell that they are in general highly positive. Let's take a look at them:

IGN gives 9/10

Sunset Overdrive is big, gorgeous, and a hell of a lot of fun. Never has getting from point A to point B in an open-world game provided so much enjoyment. It provides some of the most fun, frantic, and fantastic gaming I've had on the Xbox One. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to once-again adorn my wolf mask, leap off the highest ledge I can find, and fire an explosive stuffed animal at that group of angry robots.

GAMESPOT gives 8/10

Insomniac Games has crafted an excellent game in Sunset Overdrive. It's not without a few niggling issues, but you'll be too busy enjoying yourself to care. You can compare it to games like Crackdown, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Ratchet and Clank, but by combining the best elements of those games into a single package and injecting it with an anything goes, rock and roll attitude, you'll never think of it as anything but a singular achievement that stands tall on its own merits. It's one of the best games on the Xbox One, and a refreshing shot of merriment.

EUROGAMER gives 8/10

This is clearly the product of a team in its mid-thirties, and I feel their pain as they parade their faded cultural touchstones. Their assault on the seismic mountain of pop culture is doomed but endearing, putting me in mind of those sneakers with the flames down the side that Chandler's forced to try and sell in an episode of Friends - a reference I suspect ageing Insomniacs would instantly be au faitwith.

Trusted Reviews gives 8/10

It might not be the year’s most ground-breaking or innovative action game, but Sunset Overdrive is one of the most entertaining. Its mix of grinding and gunplay works beautifully, and the amps and the ridiculous weaponry ensure that slaughtering hordes of slavering mutants never gets old. It’s a little too scrappy and repetitive to be a classic, but who cares? Grab your biggest gun and let the good times roll.

And here is one more negative one without score from

It's not that any one line is insufferably terrible (though some certainly are). Rather, what's unbearable about Sunset Overdrive's sense of humor is that it just doesn't know when to fucking stop. There are some moments that are genuinely charming and funny. The way your character comes back from the dead with a handful of quirkily referential respawn animations is particularly adorable, for example. But then, once again, the game almost ruins the whole joke by inserting a passing line at the very end of the game about the fact that it's making a joke with its clever respawn animations.

Get it?

After hearing jibes like this, I often found myself want to shout at the screen: "Ok, ok, I get it: you're a video game and you know it. Now just be a fucking video game!"

When Sunset Overdrive does ease off its zingers and allows you to relax and enjoy yourself undisturbed, it can actually be a really good game. A great one, even. But it makes you climb over a giant heaping pile of bullshit just to get to that point.
