FTC to hold a Public Loot Box Workshop in August.
If there's one thing that the gaming community cannot stand, it's loot boxes. From the now infamous use in Battlefront II to the "purely cosmetic" inclusions in games like Overwatch, there's nothing that will boil gamers' blood to the brink more than a Loot Box. Because of this outrage against Loot Boxes, The Federal Trade Commission announced last year that they would be looking into the practice.

Earlier this week, The FTC announced that they will be holding a workshop, titled "Inside the Game: Unlocking the Consumer Issues Surrounding Loot Boxes". The event, taking place on August 7th, will be covering topics such as "the origins and evolution of loot boxes and their role in gameplay and the digital marketplace", "research analyzing consumer behavior in children and teens", and "a discussion of consumer awareness and education about in-game digital transactions, including the mechanics, marketing, and financial commitments associated with loot boxes".

The FTC also wishes to hear from consumers, allowing people to email their questions and concerns about the topic from now till June 7th at [email protected]. The FTC will also allow people to voice their opinions on the Loot Boxes on a public form now through October 11th.
