Kingdom Hearts III tops US sales charts

Kingdom Hearts III may have taken years to make, but the wait seems to have been worth it. After shipping over 5 million copies in its first week, Kingdom Hearts III was also able to take the number one spot as January's best selling game. While Kingdom Hearts 2 also topped the charts in its launch month back in 2006, the latest title was able to outsell it, with a 2.5-times increase in dollar sales.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil 2 was able to snag second place, driving more the than original did in its launch month, back in 1998. New Super Mario Bro's U Delux took the bronze medal, with it selling more than 30% higher than the Wii U original, which cameout in November 2012.

However, there is some bad news to this story, as the industry slipped to a 19% year-over-year decline in the United States.
