Hearthstone is one of the best turn-based collectible card games for Android, iOS and Windows. It is an epic multiplayer card game based on the Warcraft franchise. In 2018, Blizzard celebrated 100 million players joining the Hearthstone Tavern. Thus, Hearthstone has taken mobile gaming by storm. You can add the game to Android and iOS mobile devices from its Google Play and iTunes pages.
Hearthstone includes a few game modes for players to play. Ranked is the primary multiplayer mode in which players battle it out to climb Hearthstone’s ranking ladder, which includes 50 ranks. These are few Hearthstone tips for climbing the game’s Ranked ladder and collecting cards more quickly.
Include Seven or Eight Low Mana Cards in Your Deck
To ensure you don’t fall too far behind during the early turns, include about seven or eight one to two mana cards in your deck. That will usually ensure that you have a few cards to play during the first three turns of a match. If you include five or less one or two mana cards in a deck, you’ll often be short on options at the start of matches. That might enable your opponents to get three more minions on the board before you’ve played a single minion card, which will leave you playing catch up.
Include Seven or Eight High Mana Cards in a Deck
High mana cards will often decide the outcome of Hearthstone matches. As such, you should also include about seven or eight high mana cards in a deck with which to finish off your opponents. Then you’ll have a balanced deck with a relatively even number of early and late game cards. The rest of your deck will consist of mid-value three to five mana cards.
Disenchant Cards You Don’t Need
Hearthstone doesn’t provide much in the way of in-game tutorials. So it doesn’t tell new players that they can get rid of Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary cards they don’t need to accumulate Arcane Dust to craft new cards for their decks with. Players can disenchant cards for at least five Arcane Dust and then craft new ones for a minimum 40 Arcane Dust. Players can click the Crafting button within My Collection to disenchant and craft cards.
Players should make the most of the crafting system to strengthen their decks more quickly. Trim down your collection by disenchanting superfluous cards you don’t want. Then you can craft a new card that will strengthen your hand when you have at least 40 Arcane Dust. So crafting provides an alternative way to build decks than spending gold on new card packs.
Fill Most of your deck With Minion Cards
Minions are your hero’s army in Hearthstone. Thus, minion cards are more essential than spell cards. If you fill your deck with more spell cards, your minions might often get outnumbered on the board. That will enable your opponent to get ahead on the board (otherwise card advantage), which is crucial to winning to Hearthstone matches. As such, it’s better to have a deck that consists mostly of minion cards. Of course, you can still include some spell cards; but add about 20 (or more) minions to your deck.
It’s worth including a good number of taunt minions in a deck. Taunt minions with shields give your hero some protection from enemy attacks. First, your opponent must wipe out the taunt minions on the board before they can strike at your hero with their own minions. As such, excluding taunt minions from a deck will leave your hero more vulnerable.
Play Arena Matches When You Can
Players can play Arena matches when they’ve got all the heroes up to level 10. When you play Arena matches, you’ll get at least one new card pack and potentially quite a bit more with a few victories. As such, it’s well worth investing 150 gold to play in the Arena. Card packs might be 50 cheaper, but you’ll have a lot of fun in Arena and can get loads of bonuses with three or more Arena victories.
Add Cards That Destroy Enemy Minions To your deck
Cards that immediately destroy specific minion targets can be of considerable value. Hearthstone includes various cards that enable players to destroy a selected minion, or at least reduce its health to one. Those are good cards to have in your hand as you can easily wipe out high mana minions with them. So add cards to your deck with which you can destroy selected minion targets, and save those cards to wipe out minions with high attack values. Below is a list of some destroy cards worth noting:
- Sheep (reduces minion’s health and attack values to one)
- Shadow Word
- Siphon Soul
- Hunter’s Mark (reduces a minion’s health to one)
- Big Game Hunter
Make the Most of Your Minion Cards’ Effects
Many Hearthstone minion cards have special effects (or abilities). The best players maximize their minion cards’ effects. As such, try not to waste your cards’ effects. For example, playing a minion card that restores +4 hero health would be a little wasteful if your hero already has 29 to 30 health. A Stormwind Champion gives other minions on the board +1/+1 attack and health, so it’s best to play that card when you have numerous minions on the board. If you don’t make the most of your minion cards’ effects, you’re wasting most of your cards.
Those are a few tips that will propel lower ranked players up the Hearthstone rankings at least. With more victories in Ranked play, you'll accumulate gold more quickly to expand your card collection with. You can check out this KeenGamer page for a more general Hearthstone guide.
