New Pinnacle Weaponry Arriving in Season 5 of Destiny 2 Forsaken
Season 5 (Season of The Forge) is kicking off next week in Destiny 2 Forsaken and developers, Bungie, have revealed that they’re introducing brand-new pinnacle weaponry across multiple game modes.

Pinnacle weapons debuted in the second Destiny 2 expansion, Warmind, earlier this year. The concept is simple, guardians must commit to completing goals within certain playlists and in reward for their dedication, they receive a powerful Legendary weapon. Pinnacle weaponry in Destiny is very close to Exotics in terms of power. These weapons all feature extremely strong and unique perks.

Currently in Season 4, the only pinnacle weapons available are the powerful hand cannons – Luna’s Howl and Not Forgotten. These are obtained exclusively from the Competitive Crucible playlist.

In a recent blog post, Bungie revealed that as a result of receiving a ton of feedback from Destiny 2 players, they've decided to add pinnacle weapons in PvE modes. This means guardians will be able to earn exclusive pinnacle weaponry from both Vanguard Strikes and Gambit modes as well as the Crucible.

The pinnacle weapon from Vanguard Strikes is a High-Impact Fusion Rifle called Loaded Question. The unique perk that comes with this weapon is ‘‘Reservoir Burst: When the battery is full, your next burst deals additional damage and causes enemies to explode on death.” Loaded Question will deal Arc damage.

Guardians can earn Loaded Question via the following steps:

  • Pick up the quest from Zavala
  • Complete all the following objectives; you can earn progress toward these goals at the same time
    • 500 Fusion Rifle kills (in any strike or Nightfall)
    • 1000 Arc kills (in any strike or Nightfall)
    • 40 strike or Nightfall completions
  • Head back to Zavala to receive a fully Masterworked Loaded Question

Gambit mode which arrived in the Forsaken expansion, blends PvE and PvP elements of Destiny. It will feature a Precision Auto Rifle called Breakneck as it's pinnacle weapon for Season 5. The unique perk which comes with this pinnacle weapon is “Onslaught: This weapon’s rate of fire increases as you stack Rampage.” For those unaware, Rampage is a weapon perk which increases damage.

Guardians can obtain Breakneck via the following steps:

  • Pick up the quest from the Drifter
  • Complete all the following objectives; you can earn progress toward these goals at the same time
    • 500 Auto Rifle kills
    • 100 Auto Rifle multikills
    • 150 challenging enemies defeated
    • 40 Gambit matches completed
  • Complete all of the objectives and head back to the Drifter to receive a fully Masterworked Breakneck

Breakneck will be extremely useful in Gambit matches. Bungie explained that the weapon ‘‘was intended to be a workhorse for Gambit encounters, where killing large numbers of enemies very fast is the name of the game for a significant portion of it, so something with Rampage was an obvious starting point.’’

Last but certainly not least, a powerful Lightweight Grenade Launcher – The Mountaintop, is obtained via the Crucible. It will arrive with its unique perk, “Micro-Missile: This weapon fires in a straight line and has a massively increased projectile speed.

Bungie have stated that in addition to Micro-Missile perk, ‘‘the projectile instantly detonates on the environment instead of bouncing like a traditional grenade launcher, unless you have Sticky Grenades selected.’’
