The developers of This War of Mine have teamed up with Meg Jayanth, writer of the award-winning narrative adventure game 80 Days, to create a new story for the game titled ‘The Last Broadcast’, the second episode of story DLC for the game.
11 Bit Studios released a short date reveal trailer for ‘The Last Broadcast’ on Halloween, announcing the DLC’s upcoming release and the collaboration with writer Meg Jayanth with a positive reception from fans.
According to Tomasz Kisilewicz, the Project Lead for This War of Mine, over the course of development, this new story grew much larger in scope when compared to ‘Father’s Promise’, the game’s first DLC story. He said that although it may have taken them a while to deliver a new episode, their focus was on delivering “a deeply emotional story” with a theme surrounding “the price of telling the truth”.
“In this addition, we’re introducing a lot of new content with different endings, new gameplay mechanics, new moral dilemmas about telling the truth that influence the world, new playable civilians, a new shelter people can live in, and new sites of the city of Pogoren to visit. It had to be at least as good as the other stories you can find in This War of Mine.
“For this reason, after we received the scenario from Meg we iterated on the episode an enormous amount of times afterward. We had to make sure that in the end, the community would have a story they expect from us and we couldn’t let them down. And now that The Last Broadcast is releasing, I’d like to say ‘enjoy The Last Broadcast’, but perhaps the better wording is actually ‘experience The Last Broadcast’.”
The new episode DLC will be launching on the fourth anniversary of the initial release of This War of Mine back in 2014 and the episode will be priced at $3.99 USD. According to the developers, due to the significant growth of the new story DLC, the season pass will also be changing from its current price of $4.99USD to $6.99USD on the launch date.
This War of Mine: Stories ‘The Last Broadcast’ DLC will be available for PC on November 14, 2018.
