Digital Detox For Kids

In today’s society, it’s difficult not to go out and about without seeing at least one person with a phone, tablet or computer. However, although we love our technology it can have harmful and devastating effects to both adults and children. With this, many people have been campaigning for a ‘Digital Detox’. Read on to find out more.

Digital Detox For Kids
Statistics show that the average child spends up to six hours of their day in front of a screen. Of course, the availability of technology (as well as possessing the skills to use it) is essential in our digital world as most things from everyday work to education is dependent on it. Despite this, digital addiction is a great problem for kids seeing many suffer side-effects such as depression, insomnia, and a poor academic performance. Moreover, the high use of digital devices has seen a dramatic fall in the time children spend with their family and friends alongside meagre development of communication skills that are vital for future career paths.

Due to this, many people have been calling for a widespread digital detox, as a way of getting kids to 'disconnect to reconnect'. By doing this, many children will receive great health benefits such as better sleep patterns and a lesser chance of a development of an inferiority complex. Of course, that's not to say that technology should be completely banned – merely regulated. Furthermore, many celebrities have championed the cause from Steven Spielberg to Kendall Jenner, highlighting the importance of this issue. What are your thoughts on a digital detox?
