These days, retro indie games are a dime a dozen. Now that's not a bad thing but it's no longer a novelty at this point. However when a dev decides to go down the minimalistic road, it rarely looks like a walking, talking, living, breathing piece of art (some examples being Limbo, Inside, Fez, Braid, Cuphead, Owlboy etc.). Well, Tales Of The Neon Sea seems to be just that. The game is currently in development and is currently being funded through Kickstarter (and doing pretty well I might add!). The developers behind this pixilated eye candy boast the following features:
- Stunningly detailed retro-styled pixel-art coupled with modern atmospheric lighting and visual effects bring this unique cyberpunk world to life.
- As an adventure game built on mystery and intrigue, the player will encounter various puzzles interspersed throughout the story built to test your observation and reasoning skills.
- The story itself has been written and designed to ensure that players care about the characters and the world they exist in.
- Similar to other side-scrollers, players can use a control pad or mouse & keyboard to determine movement, dialogue, and interaction between characters in each scene.
Though it seems to be optimised for PC players (as most point & clicks are) there will be a console release. Sadly if you have Mac or Linux you will miss out. Be sure to check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!
Needless to say you shouldn't get too excited about a game that you can't even play yet. But, with those visuals and cyberpunk detective vibes wrapped in a retro styled point and click puzzle game, can they really go wrong?
