Even though the world of Fallout should feel like a nuclear wasteland, we can’t help but feel like enough time has passed to introduce a bit more color into it or people that aren’t dirty skeletal psychos or you know…texture. So without further ado, here are mods that will make you stay in Commonwealth a bit easier on the eyes.
Starting off with mods that probably have the most impact on how your game will look. They take spot number 10 just because we feel like they should be the first thing you install in any Bethesda game, period. They will add much needed graphical fidelity and more detailed textures to nearly everything in the game. How detailed you wanna go depends on your PC specs and the resolution goes all the way up to 4k.
Yeah, I know the water should look the part of being generally undrinkable but we can’t help ourselves with trying to make water in every game look as blue and as realistic as possible. Of course, you can opt for a bit less clear water as this mod has plenty of options to satisfy even the most vanilla modders out there.
What always made the most difference in how my created character looked was the hair and vanilla Fallout has a really underwhelming variety on that front. Luckily, with Commonwealth cuts mod, you’ll have plenty of options to create all sorts of pretty characters, especially if you play a female one.
Probably more important than hair is that your character doesn’t look like it took a nap in a 10-year-old nuclear dirt. CBBE and Valkyr texture mods for females give you either a slender or busty bodies that are cleaned up and with much more detail than what you get with the vanilla game
Same as above but for males. Less dirt, more muscle, more texture, deeper pores. What else do you want?
This one is not particularly lore friendly. You could pretend that much more time has passed between now and the nuclear disaster and that nature is finally taking everything back. It will change your game into a highly lush and flora filled world. All hail the green!
This is actually a series of mods in one package with which you can manually switch seasons in the world of Fallout. Each season brings the appropriate color scheme, foliage, crops, and weather conditions and it will really diversify how your world looks to keep it fresh during long playthroughs.
Vivid Fallout is another texture mod. In our testing, we felt like it had a more significant impact on how the game looked and it encompassed and overhauled a larger number of textures. Again, customizable to go from 1k to 4k with the latter looking stunning and taking a massive toll on your performance.
2. VIVID WEATHERS or TRUE STORMS
These 2 weather mods will have a dramatic impact on how your game looks and feels. Trust me on that. From lighting to sounds and more pronounced weather and atmospheric effects. The morning fog is thick, rain is abundant and storms are breathtaking.
1. ENB: EMPYREAL, PHOTOREALISTIC, VIVID
As with Skyrim, ENB’s have the most dramatic effect on the look of the game. It will apply all sorts of post-processing effects that will affect and overhaul everything, from anti-aliasing, depth of field, lighting and much much more. We feel like these are the best depending on the atmosphere you’re aiming for.
