When it comes to retro gaming, the SNK consoles, games and arcade cabinets have always been the nectar of collectors. SNK are indeed one of the most important companies for the history of gaming. Now after 40 years, the company plans to celebrate this accomplishment with a massive compilation of their greatest titles set to be released for the Nintendo Switch. While it is not yet confirmed as to how many game there will be, or indeed when it will be released (all we know so far is that it will be released this fall), there are a number of games that have been confirmed:
- Alpha Mission (arcade + home versions)
- Athena (arcade + home versions)
- Ikari Warriors (arcade + home versions)
- Ikari III: The Rescue (arcade + home versions)
- Guerrilla War (arcade + home versions)
- P.O.W. (arcade + home versions)
- Prehistoic Isle in 1930
- Psycho Soldier
- Street Smart
- TNK III (arcade + home versions)
- Victory Road (arcade + home versions)
The collection focuses on the their work from the 80's. All the games will have modern quirks like being upscaled to 1080p, having the ability to be rewound and saved at any time. The controls will also be enhanced for the modern controller. There will also be a Limited Edition available (see the image below) which will contain physical renditions artwork, music and information on the games included in the compilation.
While some see this release as a sign that the Nintendo Virtual Console is not coming any time soon. However Physical copies always make me smile. But what are your thoughts? Let us know!
