Tomb Raider is another film series being rebooted soon. The previous films did ok in the box-office but did not truly hit the marks for most fans. This new start to the series however will not only use the 2013 critically-acclaimed origin story game as the basis of it's story but also the talents of Oscar Award winning actress Alicia Vikander.

Vikander has enjoyed much success with recent films such as Ex Machina and The Danish Girl in which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also starred in a host of other film and television roles before being chosen to play Lara Croft in this film. The actress has actually been a fan of the games for a while and even played them with her male friends when they were children. Her favorite game was the 1st entry in the franchise.

"I would say the first Tomb Raider meant a lot, in the sense that I love adventure films, and here was a game where I suddenly could go to Egypt, or Atlantis – those were the worlds that I read books about and dreamt to go to when I was a child."

Alicia also said that it was meaningful to see such an important and popular female figure in games at such a young age. She actually had trouble getting past a portion of the first game involving wolves as it scared her too much at the time.

" …I remember I looked at the TV screen and I had never seen a girl, a woman being the protagonist in a video game and was thrilled and stood there just watching…I came to a scene where there were wolves, and that freaked me out. I didn't do that until my late teens, when I played the Anniversary version of the first game."

Vikander has also said that it's very important to her to make sure her depiction of the character is as spot on as possible. She also thoroughly enjoys the newer games as they do a lot in terms of narrative and storytelling.

Tomb Raider opens in theaters March 16.
