The 21st DICE Awards concluded recently with many developers coming home with big awards. The event took place in Las Vegas, Nevada and hosted multiple developers and industry big-shots. Nintendo Sweeps 21st Annual DICE Game Awards With 11 awards
The annual D.I.C.E Awards have been taking place since 1997. The show focuses upon honoring those developers in attendance with awards focused upon categories such as Game Of The Year and Outstanding Achievements in certain areas of development. There is also awards given to centerpieces of the industry known as the Lifetime Achievement awards.

This year's event came as a shock to no one as Nintendo won 11 different awards at the ceremony. Their flagship Switch title The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword won Game Of The Year over multiple titles such as Horizon: Zero Dawn and others. The developers of last year's smash-hit  Cuphead, Studio MDHR went home with awards for their title. Other awards were given to PLAYERUNKOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS for multiple categories. There were also some odd and endearing moments during the show. Platinum Games won an award for NieR: Automata as well and had nobody available at the event to accept the award. The presenter, known as Nate, and accepter for most of Nintendo's awards was fantastic and poetically described each game to it's fullest.

Recently retired Nintendo engineer Genyo Takeda accepted the Lifetime Achievement award for his long tenure at the company. He was responsible for helping to create the first arcade game for the company, EVR Race along with such titles as Punch-Out! and working on the incredible Nintendo 64  and Nintendo Wii home console as well This was a huge honor for Takeda as a majority of engineers play "second violin" to the rest of the devloper orchestra when creating a game. Not surprisingly, as in almost all the ceremonies rewarding the games of the year 2017, we find globally the same winners and nominees everywhere.
