It has recently been confirmed that Game of Thrones writers, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, will be collaborating with Disney to bring about a Star Wars Trilogy of their own. Rian Johnson will also head a trilogy of his own. In a recent interview Disney CEO, Bob Iger has also revealed that several new Star Wars series will be releasing exclusively to the Disney streaming app set for release late 2019.

Disney Makes A Barrage Of Star Wars Announcements
Since Disney took over the rights to Star Wars, it quickly became clear that CEO Bob Iger recognised the franchise as an immortal cash cow that would never stop bearing profits. As Star Wars fans, we love this. After Disney’s takeover, we have enjoyed a new show (Star Wars Rebels) and a new trilogy in the Skywalker saga. To sweeten the deal yet further with fans, we’re now treated to episodic character movies (Rogue One and Solo) in the year that we have to wait for the next in the Skywalker saga. Although, we Star Wars fans are now being truly spoiled as, apparently, the deal wasn’t sweet enough.

Disney Makes A Barrage Of Star Wars Announcements - The Force Awakens
Game of Thrones writers, David Benioff and D.B Weiss will write and produce the next as yet unnamed movie trilogy. It will allegedly focus on a specific time period within the established Star Wars timeline and set separately from the Skywalker saga. For those who may not be familiar with Game of Thrones, of Weiss and Benioff, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had the following to say “David and Dan are some the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

Disney Makes A Barrage Of Star Wars Announcements - The Last Jedi
This comes on top of the recently announced trilogy to be headed by The Last Jedi writer / director, Rian Johnson. Johnson is reportedly set to write and direct the first of his trilogy, with hitherto unannounced writers for the rest. As for the Disney streaming app, CEO Bob Iger today confirmed that several Star Wars TV shows would be coming exclusively to the platform. It is as yet unconfirmed whether these will be animated or shot in live action. While no further information is currently available for these shows, Iger did state that as soon as a deal was finalised, an announcement would be made. He also confidently says “talent on the television front is significant” and that fans will be satisfied with the acting prowess being brought to the shows.

While there is no price announced for Disney’s standalone streaming app, it is expected to be considerably cheaper than Netflix’s subscription fee.
