Monster Hunter World Beta Coming To PS4

Monster Hunter World was first revealed to us at this year’s E3. It received rapturous applause as many of us experienced Capcom’s endearing and epic franchise for the first time back on the PS2. It made a few portable returns since then. Now it has become the earliest of 2018’s big titles, set to arrive in January for Xbox One and PS4. Which means we’ll soon be wrapping our hands around the beta.

The Monster Hunter World Beta will be available this weekend. That means we can slay giant beasties from December 9th at 9AM PT / 12PM ET / 5PM GMT. This runs until the same times of Tuesday December 12th. Don’t you love how videogame Beta’s idea of a weekend is four days? As aforementioned, the beta is only arriving on PS4 which, as usual will need you to have an active PS Plus subscription. Lastly, you’ll need 5.9GB of free space on your console to play.

That's not very much, right? Well you needn’t worry as it appears we’ll have plenty of content to chew through in the Monster Hunter World Beta. It offers two kind of environments: The Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste. In them, we’ll have a selection of three quests to get through as we hunt down the Great Jagras, the Anjanath and, in the Waste – the hard headed Barroth. Players can take on these beasts solo or team up with two additional friends. Incredibly, all fourteen weapon types will be available, each of which can be tested out in the Training Room.

Capcom has also confirmed that players who complete all three quests will be rewarded with “some useful bonus items” in the final game when it drops next month. Another fun fact includes a downloadable DLC weapon based on Horizon: Zero Dawn. Speaking of paid content, Series Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto just confirmed in a recent interview with Gamespot that Monster Hunter World will NOT have lootbox economy. In a big open world game that centres around loot, anybody would think Monster Hunter World is ripe for the picking. But wonderfully, Tsujimto states "You've already kind of got loot as a core gameplay aspect without having to shove a microtransaction version of it in"Microstransactions…. Who needs ‘em?
