Counter-Strike’s Most Iconic Map Gets An Update

Counter-Strike is now at the ripe old age of 17! That hasn’t stopped Valve’s PC multiplayer shooting enjoying success over the years. Naturally, the game is due a lick of new paint every once in awhile. The latest example of that can now been found on the game’s map - Dust 2.

Avid players will have likely noticed a few changes if they logged in to play today. Widely considered one of the most balanced maps of CS: GO, Dust 2 now enjoys upgraded visuals, added pieces of cover and a general rework to stand up proudly next to the modern day shooters of today.

At Bombsite B, a number of the darker areas in Tunnels now have crumbling roofs. This has allowed Valve to insert a little more light. Extra new lighting and shadow effects now cover the whole map. The broken down car has been moved a little to ensure better player flow. Pizza stores have morphed into dentists clinics and a little more character has been injected into Dust 2 with the newly designed kazbah, bazaar and hotel. Lastly, character models have also been updated as part of the visual overhaul.

It’s clear that Valve are aware of the enduring love for Counter-Strike. A complete remake of the map or perhaps, the whole game would not go down well with fans. They have stated “With this in mind, we set out to refine it further rather than performing a wholesale redesign”.
