Is Pokémon Go still worth playing right now?

Pokémon Go is nearing its 1 year mark and while it is still quite active, it's not nearly as popular as it was last summer. However, is it worth playing or getting back into? Well I believe it's a good time to discuss!

As weird as this may seem, Pokémon Go is one of my favorite games of all time. Not my favorite, but certainly one of many games I love. It's a game I still play to this day and while I've taken some breaks from it, I always find myself coming back to it. Summer of 2016 was a very fun one. Pokémon Go took the world by storm by introducing the new generation of kids to the world of Pokémon and bringing long time fans back to their childhood. It's been nearly a year now and while lots of players have left, a good amount still play actively.

So how does the game hold up? Should you come back to the game? Well that really depends on you. Pokémon Go is a great game for people that are fans of the outdoors. So if you're walking to work, working out, or doing any sort of travel on foot, you may want to download the game again.

Although no new major updates have been brought to the game since the Gen 2 addition(which added Generation 2 Pokémon), the game is still quite fun if you get into battling gyms and exploring. I've lived in a very medium sized town for my whole life and have discovered a ton of places thanks to the game. New parks, historical monuments, and so much more. While battling gyms is quite tedious and sometimes frustrating, it's pretty rewarding since it gives a fair amount of XP and also gives you Pokecoins which you can use to buy items from the microtransaction store.

There's also the community factor still at play here. By that I mean meeting people just like yourself, a huge fan of Pokémon and interacting with the community in your area. Finding people on your team is a bonus since you can work together to conquer gyms in your area. Also currently there's an event going on that makes certain rock type Pokémon appear more often. On top of that, it's much easier to walk your buddy Pokémon for the duration of this event. This ends on Thursday this week.

Pretty soon I'm sure the game will receive a major update that will hopefully add trading and perhaps legendary Pokémon. If I were to guess, I'd say it's probably going to happen for the games 1 year anniversary which is July 6th.

So really to clarify, Pokémon Go is worth playing if you are willing to put time into exploring and appreciating what the game has to offer you if you do so. But what do you think? Are you gonna return to the game? Are you still playing? Let me know in the comments below!
