Nintendo announced today via press release that their recently released Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch has sold 459,000 copies in the United States alone on launch day this past Friday, making it the fastest-selling game in the long-running series.
The previous record holder was Mario Kart Wii, which sold 433,900 copies to a much larger install base on its launch day back in 2008. Additionally, Nintendo revealed that the title has an attach rate of 45 percent, which means that nearly one in two Nintendo Switch owners in the U.S. purchased a copy on launch-day.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the highest-rated game in the series in 15 years, with a current Metacritic score of 93.
