Today during RTX Sydney, Death Stranding Director Hideo Kojima talked about his partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment and why he chose the publisher to create his first independent game with as opposed to other opportunities he was offered.
Despite being given chances in and out of the gaming industry, including a particularly lucrative one from the United Arab Emirates, Kojima chose Sony as his partner out of respect for the company, as over the twenty years he's worked with them he's developed a close relationship with virtually everyone there. He wants to make a game that will make a lot of people happy, and he felt that by working with Sony he would be able to achieve that.
Sony allows Kojima full creative freedom with his game, as the publisher holds a mutual respect for him, This is evidenced, the creator pointed out, in the first trailer for Death Stranding, as few other companies would be willing to show a naked man in a debut trailer for a new game.
Sony will be handling all of the promotional elements of the title, but Kojima is involved with that in some respect as well, furthering the strong bond the esteemed creator shares with the publisher.
