RiME confirmed for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One & PC

Tequila Works have toiled away, biding their time. Now get ready for their multi-platform, puzzle adventure game, RiME. The Spanish games developer, responsible for Deadlight and soon-to-be released, The Sexy Brutale, first debuted RiME in 2013 as a PS4 exclusive. However, after a fair amount of silence you might typical associate with a game’s quiet cancellation, Tequila Works have confirmed RiME is coming to all current gen consoles, including the Nintendo Switch.

RiME - The Mysterious Tower
The trailer opens on a forlorn protagonist awaking on a beach, as a seagull flies away from an idyllic sunrise. This might be a sought-after getaway for some, but for our pastel-coloured hero this island is the guaranteed home of explorable ruins, treacherous platforming and dangerous enemies. Not to mention the most mysterious figure in a red hood, since that thing from Journey. When describing the game, Tequila Works have said RiME is:

"a single-player puzzle adventure about discovery, experienced through the eyes of a young boy who awakens on a mysterious island after shipwrecking off its coast. Players must navigate the island’s secrets by making use of light, sound, perspective and even time. Inspired by the rugged, sunbaked terrain of the Mediterranean coast, Rime paints its breathtaking world with a fusion of vibrant colors and moving musical undertones to set the stage for the deeply personal journey that awaits within."

RiME gives off strong vibes of a Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword-like appearance, within an environment inspired by 2016’s The Last Guardian. Similarly to the latter, the young man is unarmed for a large part of the trailer but will need to fend against ghoulish apparitions, pterodactyl creatures, towering machinery and cheerful fox spirits. Although we’re not sure how much of a threat that last one will be. Aside from knowing it’s coming to all platforms, no word has yet been given on a release date more specific than 2017.
