GTA V Redux Modder Accused of Stealing Other People’s Work

The creator of the Internet acclaimed mod may have stolen assets from another project, if speculation on the game's official forums is to be believed. The fate of the mod maker's previous work adds further evidence to the counterfeit claim.

GTA V Redux Modder Accused of Stealing Other People's Work
A Grand Theft Auto V mod released two days ago titled GTA V Redux has been accused to actually be the work of other members of the community, if clamor on the game’s official forums is to be believed.

The original work is claimed to be called VisualV, “a graphic overhaul modification for Grand Theft Auto V, bringing you completely redone weather effects, edited modificators for areas/interiors, improved color correction and much much more.” Side-by-side shots of VisualV and GTA V Redux scripts, showing and explaining their many similarities, can be found below:

Reason to believe that the mod isn’t an original work is further aided by the fate of the modder’s previous creation, The Pinnacle of V, which was closed down when it came to light that some of the content it contained was taken from other mods. In a full statement on the work’s official website, the mod maker says:

“This was my first time getting involved in a ‘community’ type project, and I was shocked to see some of the support I was receiving, and how generous people were,” Romito wrote. “It turns out it was all lies and stolen content. I’m not sure how else to handle a situation like this, so I am simply shutting it down and releasing the honest truth.”

The fate of GTA V Redux remains to be seen. Judging from history, however, it doesn’t seem like it will last for long. A trailer can be found below:
