343 Industries' Development Director Frank O'Connor revealed that the upcoming editor for Halo 5, titled Halo 5: Forge, will include at some point after launch a custom game browser, essentially turning it into a free online shooter.
Commenting via NeoGAF, O'Connor mentioned that "Once the custom game browser in available I think the community might get crazy legit" adding later that the feature "Won't be there at launch. But it's comin'."
The presence of a game browser could shape Forge into a game in its own right, as it could potentially become a free online shooter with unlimited maps and modes.
Though there's no news as to how exactly this will work, a 343 Industries spokesperson has since confirmed that the posts on NeoGAF are indeed legitimate, saying "Yes, a join-in-progress custom games browser is currently in development for Halo 5: Forge (Win 10) and Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox One) and is planned for release in a future content update."
Halo 5: Forge will be out for PC on September 8.
