Fallout 4 guide – The Companion Guides: Cait

The series of Companion Guides will highlight easiest ways to earn the highest reputation and the Companion Perk. This guide is about Cait, the fearsome Combat Zone competitor and the only ginger girl with an Irish accent, in the world of Fallout 4. The guide is compatible with any platform (PC, Xbox, and PlayStation).

Intro

In my runs, I keep coming back to Cait after I acquired all the needed Companion Perks. I just find it fun to have her around. The Irish accent, the way she reacts on things. I find it all funny and comforting. Also, Cait likes to use close-ranged guns, which favors my playthrough. I find them to be the most efficient be it a subtlety run or a melee one. I mean as a weapon choice for the companion. Lastly, I feel like a voice actress had a lot of fun while making the character. The character feels very alive and emotional.

The Companion Perk

“Trigger Rush” is the name. The Perk increases the regeneration rate of the Action Points when you are below 25% of HP. In my runs I found it to be very effective in the mix with chems, the usage of which Cait adores. However, don’t get addicted when she is around. It is a painful theme for her.

Cait’s likes and dislikes

Irish girl is really into Lockpicking and chems usage. Every time you are going to unlock any lock that is above the basic difficulty, she will like it! The same story is with chem usage. Cait loves chems. However, as she is addicted to one, she will be upset with you if you are going to get addicted while she is around. Other than that, Cait is fond of selfish and violent behavior. If you are going to craft anything that includes Science Perk or higher levels of Armor\Weapon crafting, you would like Cait to be around as it may increase her affinity.

The fearsome ginger girl doesn’t like when you are peaceful and generous. She will dislike if you are going to give something out to the poor folks, or will be doing some kind of peace talks and decisions. And on the contrary, she likes to solve the problems with violence and bloodshed.

Where to find Cait

You will find Cait in Combat Zone. It is a place full of low-level raiders. They watch fights on stage in the building that probably used to be an opera. You will find Combat Zone while moving away from Diamond City to the East. Here’s the location on a map:

You can go there on your own, or you can speak to a Diamond City guard. The guard will tell you about this place, and it will be instantly marked on your map. Also, the guard will warn you not to go there. Depending on your level difficulty, you may, or may not, need to tune it down. In my experience, I found it to be easy to deal with raiders. The raiders will be both, inside and outside of the building. There will be a bunch of them on the outside, like 3 or 4, and many raiders inside. More than 10 for sure. I don’t remember the exact number.

Once you deal with all the raiders, there will only be Cait and her boss left alive. It turns out that she’s is a pit fighter in the Combat Zone and does this for a living. The guy named Tommy Lonegan is her boss. After you killed all the raiders(they were his clients by the way), he decided to dump Cait to you. For Tommy, she is now more of a burden than a profitable investment. As the Combat Zone is now dead, there are no raiders left to pay him money for the pit fights.

After you are done talking with Lonegan, Cait will tell you that she will be around and wants to join you. You can earn some affinity while chatting with Tommy about Cait. To do that you would like to be very concerned about the girl’s opinion.

How to earn maximum affinity with Cait

As I’ve told you before, she is fond of Lockpicking. She is good at this herself, so if you haven’t skilled Lockpicking Perk, Cait can be a helper with locks. The more difficult lock you will pick, the more affinity you will earn. Of course, the portions of affinity are small. Don’t expect to reach max reputation with her after picking few locks. The process will take a while. However, it’s one of the main sources of the reputation gain.

The other main source will be the drug usage. Each time you will use a drug Cait will like it. Don’t get addicted though. She isn’t fond of addictions. So, drugs and locks will be your best friends on a quest to earn Cait’s reputation.

Also, based on her likes and dislikes you would like to solve any quests in a violent way. In no way, you want to be generous. If you will meet some poor folk asking for help, don’t agree. Cait doesn’t like to help people, she is selfish. The same stuff happens with help to settlers and settlements. If you are going to run Preston’s quests about helping settlements she will dislike it.

The Companion Quest

Yeah! Just like that, by picking locks, being mean and using chems for few hours, you will come to a point in your relationship whit Cait when she will ask you to help her. It turns out she has been on the special drug all the time! And now, she feels like it is going to end her. So, she asks you to help her by raiding a vault that is rumored to have a cure for such type of special drugs. The vault is Vault 95. It is situated to the South from the Sanctuary, almost at the end of the map, and just around the Glowing Sea. You can find it here:

Of course, the relationship will develop in such a way, before coming to Companion Quest point, that you will have a few intimate talks with Cait. In this chat, she will share her story with you. And, the more she trusts you, the more secrets she will unveil. Based on her character, and to gain additional affinity throughout dialogues, you would like to be as much supportive of her as you can. It is best to make saves before, or during, such dialogues to find out the best answers.

Back to the Vault. The Vault is not abandoned. It has Gunners, as well as few Assaultrons, on the inside and on the outside. Their levels are between 20 and 30. The whole Vault will consume some time to clear out. If you want to skip unnecessary parts of it and get to the point, go to the Facilities Wing. It is situated to the left of the main hall. You will reach the main hall as soon as you get in the Vault, by using the elevator inside the vault entrance and going through a small corridor and turning to the left.

Before you can proceed to the Facilities Wing, you need to unlock it. To unlock it, take the stairs to the upper platform and enter the doors to the left. Upon going through the small room and climbing up tons of stairs you find yourself in the meeting room. Use Overseer’s terminal to unlock the wing. Now head back to the wing, it will be to the right once you will go off the stairs.

The only thing left is to proceed in the wing and clear it out. Eventually, you will end up in the room that is built to cure the drug addictions. After hesitating to proceed Cait will sit in the chair and you will cure her addiction. After that, the quest will be completed, you will earn the Perk and you will reach max affinity with Cait. Happy ending!

I hope this guide will help you to gain Cait’s affinity. And, I hope you will grow fond of Irish ginger girl!

If you did a little research into the voice actress, Katy Townsend, you’d learn she’s Scottish, not Irish. What an insult to the V.A.

    Good job.

And I don’t really care how old this article is.

Technically, it still matches, the Scottish and Irish are both Gaelic, which is why their accents sound so similar
