Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an open world action-adventure video game inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The story of the game takes place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in September 2014 and released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2014.

Exploring an original story of vengeance and redemption, the game puts players in the role of Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain in front of him the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor — moments before his own life is taken.
