6 Reasons Why Windows Gaming Beats Console Gaming

Do you need a console for games? You certainly don't! These are six reasons why Windows is the best for games.

Six Reasons Why Windows Gaming Beats Console Gaming
Game consoles are what really kick-started the game industry in the 1970s and ‘80s. Then Nintendo and Atari consoles dominated the gaming scene. The early DOS games of the ‘80s made relatively little headway in the industry. The appeal of DOS gaming was somewhat limited as IBM desktops were designed primarily for business users.

However, the game industry of today is somewhat different as Windows 10 desktops and laptops are a notable alternative to the foremost consoles. The best Acer Predator, Alienware and ROG Strix line of gaming PCs can match, and even eclipse, the latest consoles when it comes to graphical and audio quality. So who needs a game console? These are six reasons why Windows is better for games than the current Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo consoles.

You can Upgrade Desktops

One of the big advantages of Windows gaming, on desktops at least, is that players can upgrade their game rigs by adding new components. So players can update their desktops when they can no longer run all the latest games. Players can add new graphics and sound cards to enhance the graphical and audio quality of their gaming rigs. To increase system resources for games, they can add also new RAM modules. Furthermore, players can also get new monitors and speakers for desktops.

You can Play Android and iOS Games in Windows

Emulators are great software for PC gaming that you can’t get on consoles. Android and iOS emulators, such as BlueStacks and iPadian, enable players to play most mobile and tablet games in Windows. Furthermore, there are also lots of emulators that emulate antiquated consoles. Thus, players can freely play a plethora of Nintendo, SEGA and Atari games in Windows with emulators for 8, 16 and 32-bit consoles that the likes of Nintendo have relaunched with miniature retro consoles.

Windows is the Best for Multiplayer Gaming

Windows was the first gaming platform for online multiplayer games. Today, Windows 10 is still the best platform for online games as its compatible with most of the best multiplayer games. For example, Sea of Thieves, Dota 2, Rise of Nations: Extended Edition, Company of Heroes and Rust and are five notable multiplayer titles you can play in Windows 10. However, you can’t play any of those games on the PlayStation 4; and four of those titles aren’t available on the Xbox One! Most of the best MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing) games, such as World of Warcraft, Runescape, Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars: Old Republic, are also exclusively for Windows (and some Mac platforms).

More Controller Options

The Windows PC has more controller options than consoles. Players can play games with the keyboard and mouse, which is just fine for most titles. However, there are also plenty of gamepads and joysticks for desktops and laptops. The Xbox One controller is one of the best ever gamepads that you can play Windows games with. Furthermore, the PlayStation’s DualShock 4 controller is also compatible with PCs. As such, players can play Windows games with both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamepads!

Windows is the Best for Freemium Games

Freemium games, which are freely available, are still a new thing on Sony and Microsoft consoles. However, freeware PC games certainly aren’t a new thing. As such, there are lots more freemium games for Windows than the consoles. Hearthstone, Team Fortress 2, Star Wars: Old Republic, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and World of Tanks are just a few of the great freeware games you can play on PC. Windows 10 even includes the classic Candy Crush Soda Saga on its Start menu. When you toss Android and iOS emulators into the mix, it’s pretty obvious that the consoles can never hope to match Windows when it comes to freemium titles.

Windows has the Best Backward Compatibility

Windows 10 also has better backward compatibility with older games than the consoles. You can play games from previous Xbox consoles on the Xbox One, but the PlayStation 4 doesn’t have any backward compatibility for PS3 games. The Nintendo Switch doesn’t include backward compatibility for older games either. However, you can play most games from the last decade at least on Windows 10.

Players can also play Windows games dating back to XP with the compatibility settings included in Win 10. Windows 10 includes the tab shown in the snapshot below that provides numerous options which can kick-start older game titles. There players can select to run games with settings from earlier Windows platforms that the titles were originally designed for.

The extra effort for switching on my CPU, logging into Windows, double clicking a shortcut and doing all these from a place where I could reach my mouse? No, thank you.. I would rather lie on my sofa, doing all these things with a controller.

Well, World of Tanks also exists for console and there you get tons of single-player content, which doesn’t exist for PC.
