Battlefront II New Update Sees Micro-transactions Return

The infamous progression system in Star Wars: Battlefront II is set to dramatically change later this month. Electronic Arts officially announced that an update will be hitting on March 21st, and will change how players upgrade heroes, weapons and ships. However, the update will see the return of loot crates - will EA ever learn?

The biggest change comes to the 'Star Cards' in the game. After the update is released on March 21st, players will no longer have to go through loot crates in order to obtain necessary boosts. Now, players will be able to trade in experience points collected through multiplayer for Skill Points, which can be spent on Star Cards which can unlock and upgrade specific items.

However, before your hatred towards EA and Battlefront II further increases, this update does seem to be a step in the right direction. The attention seems to be moving away from loot boxes, and rightly so. Instead of micro-transactions, players will now instead receive crates in a wide range of ways, including: daily login bonuses and rewards for hitting milestones and completing challenges.

Alongside the change to the progression system, Battlefront II is also developing in other ways: “In addition to continued balance patches, we will also add a number of modes to Star Wars Battlefront II in the coming months, offering several standout, brand-new ways to play,” the company said in a press release. “Some of these, like the recently released limited-time Jetpack Cargo, are radically different than anything you’ve experienced in the game before, and we’re excited to surprise you with what we have planned.
