Dolmen Gives Dark Souls The Sci-Fi Treatment

Brazilian developer, Massive Work Studio today announced Dolmen. It’s a sci-fi RPG set on a hostile planet, where the player must master "souls" style combat to overcome a vast array of hostilities. The third person horror title, set to release early 2019 is inspired by the works of H.P Lovecraft and H. R Giger.

Massive Work Studio reports that the player, stranded on Revion Prime must make efforts to adapt on this extremely hostile planet. As humans have emerged the dominant race of the galaxy, Revion Prime remains a mystery as it is known for being the location of a the galaxies largest ever massacre, its victims floating in orbit around the planet like a mass grave frozen in time. It’s all very morbid but these kinds of themes injected into a sci-fi horror outing in third person haven’t been done since Dead Space. That can only be a good thing.

As the sole survivor of a crew of human astronauts, pulled from charted space and abducted into a distant future, you awake below the planet’s surface with no supplies. With no answers as to how you got there, or what happened to your crew, your journey begins in the dark. By gaining experience through survival, level up your character to fit a playstyle that suits you.

Dolmen’s combat offers up careful and tactical “Souls” style combat, largely focused on melee combat. However, a long range over the shoulder perspective is available when using  ranged attacks for the sharpshooters out there. The player will also need to carefully manage collected resources, allowing them to craft armour and weapon upgrades.

If you’re starting to think Dolmen is the kind of game for you, it will be showcased for the first time at this year’s Game Developer Conference between March 21st and March 23rd. For the time being, Dolmen is only slated for an early 2019 release on Steam will consoles to follow at a later date.
