Introducing Nintendo Labo

What happens if you cross Google Cardboard with a child's toy box? Welcome to Nintendo Labo. An assortment of easy-to-make play kits, designed to encompass your Nintendo Switch and Joy-Cons, to create unique gaming experiences for kids and those who are kids at heart. It's like putting together Ikea furniture, and at the end you may turn into a giant robot.

Nintendo have just announced Nintendo Labo! A series of kits made from cardboard and string, that will create a number of shells for the Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con. Once slotted into the construct, players will be able enjoy a tailored gaming experience, using the Joy-Con‘s built-in HD rumble and motion controls. In the trailer, players can currently be seen reeling in a fishing pole, turning with a steering wheel (Mario Kart flashbacks anyone?) and even stomping around as a robot (Miyamoto’s Project Giant Robot anyone!?)

Currently there are 2 sets available or, Toy-Con. Toy-Con 01 is the Variety Pack which includes multiple buildable cardboard designs such as a keyboard, small vehicle, house etc. Toy-Con 02 is the Robot Kit which contains…the robot. Prior to the announcement, Nintendo described Nintendo Labo as, “a new interactive experience for Nintendo Switch that’s specially crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart”. With the ability to colour, decorate and personalise the kits to your hearts content, as well as the potential for future builds and creative games, Nintendo may tapped a market that’ll keep Mario earning gold coins for a long while to come.


Nintendo Labo will release April 20th 2018.
