The Metal Gear Solid Movie Is One Step Closer To Reality

For many of us, Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece saga of Metal Gear Solid first found its way into our living rooms back in the nineties. Since then, for many, Snake, in all his forms has become a cherished personality in gaming. Way back in 2006, Kojima expressed an interest in having a movie made and after the initial hubbub, news on the matter dies down a little. Until now.

Almost twelve years after the initial announcement on the film, it has taken a big step forward. It now has a confirmed screenwriter, by the name of Derek Connolly. This is the very same screenwriter who penned Jurassic World and has been confirmed for work on Star Wars: Episode IX. He has been brought on board to write Sony’s Metal Gear film to work alongside Jordan Vogt-Roberts who’s works include Kong: Skull Island and Kings of Summer. That may be a little worrying to some, but fear not. Vogt-Roberts is an avid fan of Metal Gear Solid and has been in correspondence with Hideo Kojima himself to ensure Metal Gear authenticity.

“Metal Gear Solid is probably the most important franchise to me on the planet. It is such a genius, idiosyncratic work and being able to spend time with [Hideo] Kojima recently has been like a dream.”

In an interview with Collider, Vogt-Roberts assures us the Metal Gear Solid film will be no gaming cash in pushover, stating “we will fight tooth and nail to make sure it is done properly”. Particularly promising is how Vogt-Roberts understands how easily this project could devolve into the next G.I.Joe, cheapening the great Metal Gear franchise.  “Metal Gear Solid needs to be exactly what it needs to be, which is Metal Gear Solid”

We’re left wondering just how much of Kojima’s obscure taste for artful paranormal or colourful villains will be included. However, Vogt-Roberts confirms his Metal Gear film has a very strong chance of including Gray Fox as a central character.
