Neil Druckmann defends narrative driven games
Neil Druckman is best known for his work in the video games The Last of Us and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. He is a creative director at Naughty Dog, contributing a lot to their games. Naughty Dog is well known for creating narrative based games that many consider to be masterpieces.

The Atlantic made an article on their website saying that video games are better without stories and that film, television, and literature all tell them better. Part of their article reads:

On this measure, alas, the best interactive stories are still worse than even middling books and films. That’s a problem to be ignored rather than solved. Games’ obsession with story obscures more ambitious goals anyway

Neil Druckmann has taken to twitter to criticise the article. His tweet reads:

Periodically someone gets on a soapbox and exclaims, "This is how games should & shouldn't be!" They're always wrong.

Personally, my favourite games are ones with well written immersive stories. However, with major publishers like Ubisoft moving away from story driven games, what kind of future does the genre have? Well, games with great stories such as Bioshock, The Last Of Us and Life Is Strange often have high sales so we can expect to see many more games like that in the future.
